Overall it was a highly stressful and unpleasant experience. First, the check in time says I could check in after 12 (noon) but I realized that he can't let me in until after 6 pm -- after I landed at the airport. I had to walk around town with a luggage since I had no place to stay, and ended up waiting for him for almost 5 hours! Second, he has all these rules that he tells you once you get there, and freaks out about things that the guest didnt do. He texted me, "... please turn the AC off when you leave. Also you must shut the window when you leave. AND PLEASE put your glass ware and dishes in the kitchen or leave them in your space. Thank you." It was hot and humid but I can't have the ac on when I'm not there? He didn't tell me that rule before! Also, I didn't touch the window so he was ticked off for something that he did. I did leave a small water glass out in the living room and he exaggerated the situation by adding "dishes", which I did not use. For example, other random rules include not standing on the bed, not using the fan and ac at the same time, and not being allowed to move / touch the shower head. Lastly, when my wallet and keys were lost or stolen, he treated me rudely and tried to rip me off. Losing all of my IDs and money on the day of my flight, I was out trying to find my wallet and keys, the host requested $15 through Airbnb and had the galls to say I didn't appologize to him - again, this was when I was out looking for them. On the first day, he said lost keys are $10, so he arbitrarily increased that amount by 50%. Overall, I think Jean-Paul is a very cruel and unreasonable person. I would never rent from him again.

Response from Jean-Paul:
This young individual got very emotional and upset when I asked him to pick up after himself, not walk on the bed or close the window when he left my home where I live and that is the main reason why he left this spiteful review. I have had excellent reviews for almost the past 2 years. Most of my guests understand the concept of having rules in ones own home but this apparently befuddled this young man. He instantly booked my shared space (apparently for the price) and did not communicate with me once. I reached out to him to let him know that I work on weekdays which he thought was audacious on my part for some reason. There are several lies in this review as well that he felt he needed to add to support his emotional response such as: Saying I freaked out. I sent him 1 text message asking him to please pick up after himself and turn the AC off. Other than that we had no interaction. But he apparently can see people freaking out in text messages when he is asked to comply with basic rules of consideration. He did not arrive to my location until after 2:30 PM. And I met with him at 5:54 pm so he did not wait for 5 hours at all so that is another lie which can be verified with Airbnb from our messages. I asked him to close the windows before he left. The window was already open in his space because I opened it to let air in but he must have decided to ignore me when I asked him to close them before he left. He ALSO lies again when he lost my keys. The first thing I asked him when I let him in was how was the wedding? He ignores my question says he lost the keys with no explanation and no apology and walks away from me. He then refused to pay to replace them. This is what constitutes as rudeness to this individual: someone who thinks rules in some else's home is offensive, does not communicate and has no regard whatsoever so other people's property and belongings as you can clearly see from his own words. If you have rules in your home and expect BASIC consideration and respect from your guests then I would avoid this one. He obviously has very little experience in home sharing. He could barely manage a 3 day visit on his own and will most likely find everything he possibly can complain about if you try to maintain any standards in your home. I recommend you read past this review and see what my more and many reasonable guests have to say about my space.

Jean-Paul was very accommodating every day during my stay. For the price, this is pretty much the best deal you're going to get. Everything in the listing was spot on, and there were no bad surprises. If you're mainly spending time in Manhattan, do be aware that the commute via subway is around an hour. But if you don't mind that and the predominantly Asian immigrant population in Flushing, I would recommend this place to anyone.

The description of the place is accurate. Everything is great, except it is a bit long (~1 hour) to get to downtown Manhattan . Place is ideal for solo travelers. I would recommend this place to others.
