The space

The Hunt Country Cottage is located in the heart of Upperville Virginia, home to the nation’s oldest and most prestigious horse show. We bought the home as a getaway second home in 2005 and have spent the past year restoring and decorating the hunt box with loving care.

The home has a standing seam metal roof, clapboard style siding, a stone foundation, cozy front porch and second floor dormer windows. The interior is painted with warm colors and accented by antique oak barn wood paneling and trim in the family room. The flooring is the original antique heart pine.

The cottage is decorated as a traditional English Hunt Box, with equine art and memorabilia, lovely antiques, warm carpets on the heart pine floors, and high-end bed linens.

Enjoy the outdoors from covered porches front and rear. Relax in the comfort of a fully-equipped modern house with a touch of our English heritage. The back yard is accented by a small stream where neighborhood song birds and hawks visit frequently.

Enjoy fine dining and an old English pub across the street at the Hunter’s Head Tavern, a favorite destination for locals and visitors. The village of Upperville is peaceful, quiet, and friendly. Broad sidewalks make for an easy stroll through town or visit to the local shops.

Sky meadows state park is a 10 minute drive to the west. The park provides regular events, hiking trails, camp sites, a stocked fishing pond, and access to the Appalachian Trail. Drive a little farther and enjoy nature's harvest at Stribling and Hartland Orchards.

Our home is perfectly situated for equestrian activities. We are within 10 minutes of world class stables, polo fields, and steeple chase grounds. We also enjoy the convenience numerous wineries, excellent restaurants, Olde English pubs, and exquisite shops.

The cottage is conveniently located 6 miles west of Middleburg, 50 miles West of DC, 5 miles from Sky Meadows State Park. A short 10-15 minute drive east or west takes you to a multitide of fine establishments. Located to the west are the Blackthorne Inn and Ashby Inn. To the east is Middleburg with the Fox’s Den, Julien’s, the Red Fox Inn, and the French Hound to name but a few.

Dan's house is wonderful The kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are well maintained and so pretty. We rented this house for a wedding and all the bridesmaid stayed in it, and it was perfect. The beds we so comfortable and we had enough room for the bride and her ladies to get ready at the house. It was a wonderful house and I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in horse country.

Beautiful leather furniture, everything to cook and clean with, fully stocked, and even a William & Sonoma cake stand! The bedrooms and bathrooms are amazing, even nice towels! I will describe no further so you enjoy your own surprises! And Dan was kind and helpful! Search no further!

We had a lovely stay at the cottage over a fall long weekend. Upperville is quaint and the house is quite close to Sky Meadows State Park, apple picking and nearby towns. Dan made us feel welcome and the house was clean and well-stocked. We had one issue with the upstairs shower but Dan was responsive.

My family and I had a wonderful weekend in September at the Hunt Cottage while visiting for a cousin's wedding in Bluemont! Dan immediately responded to our questions and was a pleasure meeting upon our arrival. The charming cottage was very spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed. We picked up some steamed crabs and enjoyed eating them on the picnic table, grilled out and had a fire in the backyard roasting marshmallows for our s'mores! Coming from NYC, we loved being able to walk to the country market a few minutes away. Before we left for the weekend, we were already thinking about visiting again in the holiday season. I highly recommend the Hunt Cottage and would 100% stay there again! Thanks Dan! :)

Dan and his family were leaving when we arrived. Very warm and welcoming and with thorough instructions. Left us with drinking water and a bottle of wine, thoughtful and nice. It was a great house for our wedding weekend festivities in Middleburg. Also walking across the street to Hunter's Head Tavern was super convenient.

We are DC area natives with family roots in McLean, Great Falls, DC, and Maryland. We've settled in the Town of Vienna because of its convenience, safety, and community spirit. Travel is our passion and the Hunt Country Cottage is one of our favorite destinations.

Why the Owner Chose Middleburg: The breathtaking beauty and peacefulness of Hunt Country Virginia is what attracted us to Upperville. The drive from our home in Vienna is short and we love the feeling of arriving in Aldie and glimpsing the Blue Ridge Mountains less than 20 minutes away. The hunt country provides an abundance of activities, a relaxing atmosphere, and very interesting and friendly people. The scenery is beautiful, the air is clean, the mountains are spectacular, and everyone is on vacation.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: We discovered this property quite by accident. At the time we were looking for investment property in Vienna. However, this home was listed with an incorrect zip code and appeared in our search results. After investigating further, we fell in love with the home, its location, and the hunt country experience.
