We decided to build an Eco house eight years ago, which is powered by solar an hydro, charging a battery bank that runs the house at night, The cooking, hot water an heating is powered by a Stanley coal range, with a grid of solar panels for heating the water in the summer. We have stunning views of southern alps and Paparoa ranges, with great fishing, tramping an mountain biking opportunities at our back door. There is a rich gold mine history 20 km away at the old Waiuta settlement.

This house is paradise on a hill! Fantastic views, beautiful kitchen and friendly host!! The rooms were so cosy with lovely bed linen and soft fluffy towels... it definitely felt like Fiona made the extra effort for our comfort!! We had our dinner cooked for us - lovely! The only negative was the lack of breakfast however this was our first air BnB so we aren't sure if we mis-assumed that! Great experience!!

Response from Fiona:
I'm very sorry for the misunderstanding as Yes breakfast is always included, i normally don't take a booking if i have to work the next day, but i unfortunately had to cover someone. I had mentioned to you both to 'help you self' to the eggs, toast or cereal, but maybe i should have left a note. So thank you for the feed back as its really appreciated, and i loved meeting you three.

Fiona was a wonderful host and it was a privilege to stay in her spacious and comfortable accommodation. Fiona is a great cook and the option of having the evening meal with her was greatly appreciated as the property is a not close to a range of eateries. Our meal was memorable and her knowledge of the South Island made for a delightful stay.

For us, Fiona's place encompasses the best of AirB&B. We love unique homes with story and being able to spend time with local people. It was all of this and more. Fiona and Neil were so generous with their time; conversation was wide ranging, fun and engaging. What interesting lives they lead! It was fascinating to discover how they had developed the property sustainably over the years. Fiona cooked a delicious meal both nights for which we paid extra and it was totally worth it. The house is lovely, spacious and our space private. The view over the mountains is spectacular. Loved feeding the sheep and seeing the orchards. We drove over to Greymouth and then onto Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes at Dolomite Point. Fascinating.

Fiona and Nells are wonderfull guest. Their bedroom uptstaies is very confortable, clean, and private terasse with a view on very amazing garden. It's a good place to stay few days to have walk in the moutain or if the children like seing animals Fiona et Neil sont des hôtes merveilleux. Un bed and breakfast vraiment charmant.

The house and surroundings of Fiona and Neill's home are beautiful. They are not connected to the public electricity and water system but have all modern facilities one needs through ingenious systems Neill built himself. They are fantastic hosts and love to show you around their farm with the different animals they have. We felt really at home thanks to their great hospitality and fantastic dinners Fiona prepared. Although the location is remote we had a great 2 days over there.

Fiona and Neil are lovely people. They showed their house and explained a lot about the eco friendly installations. Fiona cooked a delicious meal and we had a nice conversation. The guestroom is spacious with a comfortable bed. Breakfast made by Neil was very tasty. If you are looking for a quiet accommodation, than this is the ideal place.

Neil an I are a fun loving hard working couple, we have two awesome children in there late teens early 20s who come to visit regularly. I love my animals so have lots of sheep, chooks an goldfish, a few cows, cats an a dog. I grow most of my own organic vegetables an fruit. We are completely off the grid with solar panels, water wheel an a coal range for heating an cooking. As we are up on a terrace we have our own piece of private paradise over looking the Grey Valley an Paparoa ranges with awesome views.
