As a guest you will have access to the entire property together with a single reserved car parking space across the driveway. The owners live opposite The Barn and are on hand to welcome our guests and provide a key for access to the property.

Interaction with guests

My partner Amanda and I are normally available to help with any queries or any information which guests are likely to require.

Other things to note

Church Street is a typical village thoroughfare with high kerbs and many traditional stone buildings. It represents one of the older parts of Merriott and includes the village church - All Saints, dating back to 13th century - a primary school, a Tithe Barn and an Old School Hall. The Barn is situated in a conservation area which provides a street scene which has changed little over the past few centuries.

Fantastic venue! We were staying when I was competing at Aldon Horse Trials and it was perfect. 20 mins from the show ground and was perfect post show relaxing spot. Eric had all the information for the local area and the pub down the road was amazing!!

The converted barn in Merriott is the perfect location to discover the 'real' Somerset. Eric made us so welcome, meeting us personally and giving us great advice on places to visit. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated and the barn was really comfortable, making it feel like home from home. We stayed for a whole week and feel it was excellent value for money. A highlight was the warm welcome at the Local pub, the Kings Head, a two minute walk, where we felt like locals from the word go. Top marks for a great stay from Anne, Rob, Woody and Dorothy.

Response from Eric:
Anne & Rob visited with their American friends, Dorothy and Woody and spent much of their 7 night stay visiting attractions throughout Somerset. Tourist literature which we provide in The Barn helped them choose those places which they preferred to visit. They sampled the hospitality at The Kings Head, our local pub and Dorothy even tried a game of Skittles, which is the staple game of choice in Somerset on a Friday night. Very friendly and personable guests who thoroughly enjoyed their time in Somerset and respected our property whilst they were here. We hope Dorothy and Woody arrive home safely in Florida when they finish their trip to the UK. Thank you for choosing The Barn for your stay.

The Barn was absolutely lovely, and notably spacious. Eric was a fabulous host; friendly, attentive, and always on hand if needed. The additional breakfast items were a wonderful bonus, and the dogs were most appreciative of their little treats. The village was surprisingly active, and great to explore. We will definitely return.

Response from Eric:
James and Louisa were warm and friendly guests and appeared to thoroughly enjoy their stay at The Barn. They experienced a difficult journey and despite arriving very late, they both made the most of their short stay in Merriott, visiting the local pub during a Ginfest weekend and enjoying the many walks in the area with their 2 Westies. We really enjoyed them staying and we would be delighted if they could take the opportunity to re-visit to spend more time discovering the secrets of Somerset and Dorset. They are welcome to visit anytime!

Eric was a fantastic host. We booked last minute and his communication was great throughout. We were greeted by Eric when we arrived and the 'welcome package' of groceries and pastries was a lovely surprise. The size of the accommodation was perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 four year old children - and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was clean, quiet, modern and well-looked after. Lots of useful literature, which pointed us to a great pub for dinner, and our children were incredibly happy with the games cupboard! We would highly recommend.

A lovely property with great host, location and facilities. A welcome pack was really appreciated. Nice to be able to make a cuppa on arrival. The property is well maintained and equiped. The local pyb also serves good reasonably priced food. The property is in a grat location to explore National Trust properties in area as well as coast. Would ceryainly stay again. Thank you.

The converted barn is fantastic place to stay and spacious enough for a family. It has everything you need and Eric is a good host with plenty of local knowledge.

I'm recently retired and moved to the West Country with my partner Amanda during the Spring of 2016. Our aim was to create a holiday home and to enjoy a better quality of life in a village location - we have achieved both of these goals. We feel as though we came away on a holiday and never went home! Our rural location is both peaceful and full of character with an amazing array of ancient stone buildings in a conservation area.
