Great location

Culsharg Cottage is in Glentrool Village, in Galloway Forest Park which is an International Dark Sky Park - we get awesome starry nights. We are also a UNESCO Biosphere Community.

Glentrool is very much about the outdoors. We are a family-friendly 7Stanes mountain bike trailcentre. The Kirroughtree 7Stanes centre is just 12m to the south offering tougher MTB routes. There also lots of varied walking and hillwalking routes and some excellent road bike ascents and descents in the area.

The space
Culsharg Cottage is a single-storey bungalow which is simply, but colourfully decorated with comfortable beds. It has wall-mounted electric radiators throughout and lovely log burning stove in the living room. During your stay you can have as many baskets of logs as you desire, and we can help you "fire up" if you need assistance.

The kitchen is modern and has the usual appliances of cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle and toaster, plus a dishwasher. The hot water is an "on-demand" system. The bathroom has a brand new electric shower and enclosure; there is no bath. There is plenty of free on-site parking.

Dogs are welcome, but the cottage has laminate wooden flooring throughout, so please be sure your pooch is happy with that. The rear bedroom has a double bed and plenty of storage. The front bedroom has three single beds. The cottage is thus suitable for two couples enjoying a break away together, or a family of two parents and up to three kids. Fresh bed linen is provided for each guest along with a single bath towel for each guest and hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom.

In the living room there are a couple of small sofas and a table/chairs for meals, but while there is a TV provided in the cottage, there is no TV reception (or licence) at the cottage. We do, however, have a Roku streaming device and DVD player. Please note that due to COVID we have had to remove games, DVDs, cushions and blankets from the cottage so you may wish to bring your own.

There is free Wi-Fi inside the cottage.

There is secure bike storage and bike wash facilities (a hose!). I also usually have a few spares lying around, and there is an experienced bike mechanic living in the village for any more serious mechanicals.

Glentrool is RURAL. There is a pub that serves excellent food less than a mile from the cottage, but the nearest shop (Aldi/Sainsburys) is ten miles away, so you will need to stock up prior to arrival - or go to the pub a lot! There is also a local Visitor Centre/Cafe less than a mile away, but it is seasonal and may be either closed or weekends only during the off-season. Worth checking though as they do excellent haggis/cheese toasties.

Hello! We are Dave and Beth, and we are lucky enough to live in beautiful Glentrool in the Galloway Forest. Culsharg Cottage and Kelpies Cottage are next door to our house and we split our time between running the cottages and various creative pursuits. Dave is a professional photographer, and living in the "Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park" he takes advantage of the starry skies here. You can see some of his photos, all of the local area, in the cottage. Beth designs and makes jewellery and teaches fitness classes, currently via Zoom. We love the outdoors and enjoy running, loch swimming (Beth) biking (push bike and motorbike - Dave), and hill walking (both of us!). We love exploring both here in Glentrool and all over our beautiful wee country. We are always happy to chat about the best ways to enjoy our amazing countryside.
