Crocker Highlands is the jewel of Oakland. It is made up of large stately homes on tree lined streets The Cottage is a beautifully updated 1912 chauffeur quarters located behind a lovely remodeled period home. The first floor has spacious living room and full bath but no kitchen. The second floor is a large sunny bedroom with two twin beds and reading area/closet. You think you will enjoy the space.

The space

The space is really quite nice. The Cottage is a free standing unit with your own entrance. The lower level is made up of a large living room that used to be the garage. On the same level is good size bathroom with sink, shower and toilet is also on the first floor. We try to keep bottled water in the small refrigerator A staircase takes you up to the second floor bedroom with two twin beds and a small closet. There is also a reading area on the second floor.

Guest access

Guest access is self check-in. We found that most guest like this. If you are running late it is not a problem.
You walk up a lovely driveway and put in the driveway gate automatic gate opener and the Cottage is ready for. The keys are on the counter.
You have the space to yourself.

The cottage is adjacent to our driveway where we park that is why we can't offer you off street parking. But you have a lot of room once we go to work in the morning

Interaction with guests

Both Jim and I are at work during weekdays but I am of course available by phone or email. Text is actually the best way to get me. The space is self contained and you can easily come and go on your own. Because it is a separate space we are inviting but let our guest entertain themselves.

Other things to note

The cottage is a separate large two-story building that is a beautifully converted garage. It has a small refrigerator, and coffee maker but no kitchen. Breakfast is coffee. The yard is fenced with a lovely patio in season and pond. When the weather is nice the patio is available for use. But please remember there is no smoking on the property. The City of Oakland does require a tax.

What can I say? It was wonderful. Phillip's place is a stylish, relaxing, and comfortable place to put up your feet, have a glass of wine and then retire to goose down pillows and a comfortable bed upstairs. I enjoyed my first AirB&B experience here. I certainly will be back!

The place was superb! Very clean, nicely accessible and easy to find parking, outstanding communication, and everything was exactly as advertised. 10/10 would absolutely stay again in Philip's cordially furnished and super comfortable place!

The Cottage is luxurious, cozy and private! I loved the big desk! And, I know it's weird to say, but the lighting made every room extra relaxing. The location was perfect for me and every way that I was routed there was just beautiful. There was always parking nearby. I really appreciated Philip's recommendations of the local businesses. The walk there was downhill through this charming neighborhood, and his recommendations were spot on - it's a great little retail and dining area! I'd look forward to staying there, again.

Philip was an excellent host. He was so nice and welcoming! The cottage had everything my father and I needed and more. It was super tidy and elegantly decorated. The beds were comfy and warm as well. If I ever go back to SF or Oakland I would love to stay in this cottage again

Hi I am Philip.

My husband Jim Tibbs and I both left corporate life in the last couple of decades. I worked for IBM, P&G and Clorox. I am now the founder/owner of high-end residential remodeling company called HDR Remodeling Inc in Berkeley, Ca My husband Jim Tibbs (Macy's and Levy's) is now GM for a competitor of HDR also in Berkeley. But, that is another story.

We purchased the home built in 1911 about 25 years ago and totally remodeled it. Staying in the cottage you will be enjoying the fruits of all our hard work. The house was the worst house on a very nice street when we bought it.

We travel extensively mainly Europe. We look forward to meeting you.
