The Chili Line Depot is a cozy restaurant and lodge located in the heart of Tres Piedras, NM surrounded by the Carson National Forest. We offer weary travelers a place to rest their rumps, eat some home cooking and enjoy our friendly Mom & Pop atmosphere whether it be for a few hours, a night or a few nights! We welcome everyone from couples, to solo adventurers, families (with kids), and big groups.

The space

The cost of $70 per person, per night includes lodging and both breakfast and dinner. This room is adjacent to the restaurant so there may be some noise until 8 PM. The bathroom is not new and fancy, but clean, with tub and shower.
The climate is cool during the summer months and snowy during the winter months but we keep it nice and cozy with our wood burning stoves and have space heaters available.

Guest access

You have room access through a side door from the patio or through the restaurant.
Guests have access to the restaurant, one full bathroom, 1 half bathroom (in the restaurant), laundry, a common area and a side patio and lawn.

Interaction with guests

IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO CALL AHEAD. ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). This is a Mom and Pop operation and the hosts live on their ranch, a few miles away. They are happily available to assist you during the operating hours of the restaurant...8 AM to 7 PM.
A home phone number can be provided for late arrivals and special needs.

Other things to note

This is a ground floor room with one step up to the bathroom which is adjacent to the laundry area. We can add a cot bed for an additional guest in the room (ie. a child). There will be an additional charge of $35 ($10 for cot & $25 for food costs).
Tres Piedras is quite remote and there are NO supporting facilities in Tres Piedras, (ie. gas station, fast food, grocery store, bank, ATM, etc.) If you are looking for convenience and luxury, Taos has facilities 40 miles east.

Only met Deb for a brief moment as she was leaving when we arrived. All of the people at Chili Line Depot were accommodating and very friendly. We really appreciated their support in making us breakfast burritos to go, since we left very early in the morning. Basic and rustic would be my general description. The bedroom is literally next to the restaurant and we had to share the staff bathroom (not sure when this was last cleaned). I don't know where the other bathrooms were located, other than the one for the people eating at the restaurant. It worked out well for us to stay here, however, as we were on bicycles and needed a place to stay before climbing over Brazos Summit.

Betty, I hear you insofar as the bathroom. We are currently upgrading our bathroom availability. Since you arrived while the 193 riders from the TourDivide 2017 (Continental Divide race from Canada to Mexico) was enroute through our one horse town, we were having a heck of a time accommodating all of the mud and showers and bicycle washing. We will try to do better.

Nav system takes you past it, there is NO SIGNAL out there. No gas stations for forty miles. Owners of airbnb charge 7.50$ if you need gas. Our room wasgiven away to another person prior to our arrival. We were put in an attic group sleeping situation with a strange man we did not know. The bathroom was dirty, and leaked from upstairs to downstairs bathroom.

Response from Deborah:
Yikes! This woman evidently checked in via AirB&B after *PM, long after we were closed. She booked for one person and arrived at 10PM with two persons. We already had 4 tired bicycle racers fed and ready for bed. We fed her and her guest, juggled sleeping quarters, and put them in clean beds in the beautiful bunkroom which was what we had left for availability. We bent over backwards because they were tired and hungry and evidently had difficulty navigating to the ONLY business in Tres Piedras. Sorry that New Mexico highway department has only installed a blinking light signal instead of one she could navigate through. Sorry there is no gas station in TP and that we're are not a gas station. Sorry we fell short with a creak in the floor of this historic 100 year old building. Sorry that we cannot be everything to everyone.

Chili Line Depot is a fun basic out of the way place to eat & spend the night. If you don't need a lot of privacy and want to have a great New Mexican dining experience Chili Line Depot is your place. Lots of history & Friendly hosts. It was a great surprise to have a very talented live blues singer entertain us for the evening. The accomodations are more in line for hunters.
