Red Rock Cottage, at the end of a private road in a secluded copse of trees, has two spacious en suite bedrooms, each sleeping 3, and the open plan living area opens up to a large private patio with uninterrupted views of the Klein Karoo Landscape.

The space

The Place is situated in the Klein Karoo wilderness between Ladismith and Riversdale, at the end of a private road in a beautiful secluded valley. Both our units are completely private, with each situated in it’s own unique setting in our valley.

Red Rock Cottage is situated away from the farmhouse in a secluded copse of trees at the foot of a beautiful red sandstone outcrop, called Red Rock. The setting is sheltered and peaceful with views towards the sunset and nothing but acacias, Klein Karoo koppies and veld.

The cottage comprises two spacious double en suite bedrooms. Each bedroom has it's own separate entrance and the en suite bathrooms with hot showers are modern, spacious and completely private. A sofa bench in each room doubles as a single bed for children or adults. The first bedroom has it's own fireplace and a small private stoepie with seating at the back of the cottage.

The living area is open plan and consists of a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, fridge and lots of storage. The dining area sits adjacent to large windows and glass patio doors, opening onto the outside living area and views of pure Karoo koppies and veld. The lounge area has comfortable sofa benches which also double as single beds for children. The free-standing fireplace ensures cozy winter nights.

Glass patio doors open onto the private outside space with table and seating plus braai. If you are not the braai type; there are patio fires to keep you warm outside whilst enjoying the spectacular Karoo night skies.

Both the Studio Flat (please see out other listing - The Studio Flat @ The Place) and Red Rock Cottage are fully equipped for self-catering. Freshly baked bread, farm eggs from our 100-percent free-range chickens and any other organic farm or locally produced fresh produce can be purchased when available.

Things to do include exploring the amazing variety of landscape features on the farm – the magical mini-valleys, dry river beds, fossils and strange succulents that make our landscape so unique. Here you can bird watch and star gaze to your heart's content.

Guests have full access to our 100 hectare farm and it's beautiful varied landscape.

So much thought has gone into making the cottage cozy and comfortable. There seemed to be everything we needed and more. The owner had arranged freshly baked bread for us and veggies from her garden, at a nominal extra cost. A very happy, private and relaxing time. Thank you!

We loved 'The Place'! Obvious care and attention to detail, beautiful interior in good-for-the-soul surroundings. Communication with Lizelle was easy and friendly. We would love to come back.

We really enjoyed staying here. The cottage is lovely, Lizelle and her family are very nice hosts and if you're looking for a nice and quite place to relax and calm down that's definitely the place to go. Lizelle surprised us with a loaf of fresh baked bred, which was very delicious. We definitely recommend this place and would go there again.

This was a great retreat location for us on the "secluded" portion of our honeymoon. The place is very remote and was a great getaway. We cooked all of our meals and used the grill which was very nice. Each night we enjoyed walks about the property at sunset. Only thing we should mention that we weren't expecting were the geckos that seem to live in the house. Each night we'd see several scurry across the walls but learned to enjoy their presence :) The host was very wonderful and accommodating! Would recommend!

Red Rock Cottage is a wonderful, secluded and special spot that offered us the perfect 'time-out' from our usual routines. So much so, that we started recognising the daily routines of the birds each evening fly into the sunset overhead, or the ground animals scurrying around for their food at the same time each day... This, together with an evening braai, with a well kitted out kitchen with all necessary utensils and ammenities, held up to the listings' description and photographs. Lizelle went out of her way to make us feel like it was a home away from home as well as respond quickly to any queries or concerns. We highly recommend this listing to anyone wanting to get a way from it all and we would definitely stay again.

Dear Lizelle & Joseph. Thank you for sharing this unexpectedly lovely jewel with us. The cottage is decorated in the utmost taste and stylish simplicity. Upon our arrival we were spoilt with a home baked olive bread - courtesy of our hosts Lizelle & Joseph. We enjoyed lazy evenings listening to the quietness of the Klein Karoo, enjoyed some walking and a trip to the most picturesque Seweweekspoort pass where we managed to cool down in a rock pool. An unforgettable stay, thank you. Coillard, Mariska & boys
