Not the best stay. Initially booked 1 room, then he offered to rent an additional much smaller single bed for another $100 (seemed quite pricey). Jon let us check in late which was nice. Few cockroaches seen near the stove while making breakfast. We came back late 1AM (after a hi…
Response from Jon:
If these guests thought $33 per person per night was "quite pricey", I can't think why they agreed to the booking. I normally only take a maximum of two guests as I only have a small house and it gets rather crowded otherwise. I was was upfront about this and the extra cost for a third guest. They were under no compulsion to accept. They planned a hike up Mt Bogong, quite a challenging walk in a remote area. I rang the police to organise a search when I hadn't heard anything from them by midnight. I am in the SES, I know how easy it is to get lost or injured in the bush. Rescuing bushwalkers is a lot of what we do. The guests admitted there was some justification for me ringing the police. They told me they got lost before they even started, being unable to find the trailhead. As a result of this, they walked for many hours longer than they intended returning to their car after dark. And they didn't have sufficient food with them, hence the late night trip to Albury. I don't have access to guests' phone numbers on Airbnb, the only way I could contact them was a message through the site. Did they seriously think ringing the police was the first thing I tried. The police asked me to look through their things to see if their was a contact number or next of kin information. When the guests eventually returned, I apologised to them for having to do this and they said it was OK. These guests stayed for two nights. They arrived after midnight on the first night after initially saying they'd be there by 10 pm. They left at 4am the next day for their disastrous walk returning at 1am. I'm frantic with worry and they have the cheek to complain about poor rapport!
