Location

Amaliapoli, Thessalia Sterea Ellada, Greece

Visitors receive a warm welcome in Amaliapoli. It is popular with Greeks in August but otherwise is very un touristy. The beach is sandy and very good for children as it slopes gently into the sea. There are couple of beach bars with cool beers and tasty snacks and a beach volleyball court right next to the beach. You can also park for free at the beach. You will find a selection of nice tavernas specialising in fish, cafes and bars. For your shopping there is a small general store, a greengrocer and a bakery with delicious organic bread. There is also a large supermarket in nearby Sourpi which has almost everything!
Almyros, the nearest town, has banks, a medical centre and a wider selection of shops.
Volos is also good to visit with bustling waterfront promenade 'Argonauton' lined with restaurants, cafes and bars. Be sure to sample the local speciality tspiouro (a sort of aniseed flavoured drink) which is always accompanied by small plates of food, rather like Spanish tapas.
If you tire of the village beach there are many nice sandy beaches to explore within 30 minutes drive as well as beautiful mountain villages.
