Rustrel, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

The village of Rustrel is historic. The present village dates back to the 15th century and has its own chateau, now the Mairie, complete with 4 round turrets. Rustrel is the start and end point for hikers and bikers in the Colorado de Provence, about 2 km outside the village. Its centre of attraction is its Bakery, le Pierrot d'Antan, which offers, aside from its renowned bread and viennoiseries/croissants, breakfast, midday outdoor dining and refreshments throughout the day. The family-owned & operated Auberge de Rustreou has a busy and welcoming restaurant open for lunch and dinner, 7 days a week in the Summer. The village has its own general store and a third cafe-restaurant on the main square. Artists have studios in different part of Rustrel, many of them open to visitors.
Rustrel is a great starting point from which to explore the whole of the Luberon valley with its delightful hill-top villages, historic abbeys and other points of interest. Almost every village has its own weekly market, a big draw for visitors. Other antique and bric-a-brac markets are held throughout the Spring and Summer. From Rustrel it is also easy to explore the villages and countryside of Haute-Provence, including Banon, Simiane la Rotonde and Sault. The imposing Mont Ventoux dominates the landscape and attracts hikers, bikers and others to its summit for stunning panoramas of the Luberon Valley and beyond.

Mike, my husband and I are busy retired people, living in France full-time since 2011. My husband and I have had a home in the Luberon since 1995. Our careers took us all over the world, but this is where we are most at home. We enjoy meeting new people and already run a successful B&B from our home, situated opposite La Miellerie (the Bee Hive). We speak French, German, Italian and Spanish, and even some Chinese.
