Wake up with Mt Wellington in your window and sunlight streaming through. This top level South Hobart apartment is sunny and private - you will feel immersed in beautiful bushland, but still enjoy easy access to the city, and Hobart's famous waterfront (just a 10min drive into the Hobart CBD/Salamanca and a 15 min drive to the top of Mt Wellington). The apartment has been architecturally designed and showcases beautiful Tasmanian timbers, complemented by quality furnishings and bedding.
The space
This is the ideal destination for those who like wilderness on their doorstep, but love the convenience of the city nearby. We live right underneath Mt Wellington (kunanyi) - the iconic mountain of Hobart. Staying with us will give you the best of what Hobart is known for - both the tranquility of a mountain retreat, surrounded by nature, yet only a short trip to the city, Salamanca & waterfront (10 minutes by car).
We do live here, but you can be as connected or as private as you wish - we are very respectful of our guests experience. Guests use the side entrance into the garden (past the chooks!) and the apartment is at the rear of the property, overlooking our native garden and large veggie patch. Our entrance is at the front of the house.
The apartment has been architecturally designed to have a warm, contemporary feel. From the moment you step inside, you will feel the warmth and attention to detail that have been carefully crafted into this space - guests regularly say how 'cosy' it feels and how much they have enjoyed the space. It has Tasmanian Oak flooring (re-used and renovated from an old shearing shed) with blackwood timber detailing, linen and quality cotton bedding and towels offering comfort for your stay.
Curl up in the reading nook to enjoy the view - and it's a beautiful view! The face of kunanyi (Mt Wellington), greets you from your bedroom window and the reading nook and balcony both face east to greet the sunrise. We have beautiful walking trails from the front door - easy walks of 30-60 minutes into beautiful bushland with native animals abounding...! Ask us for a map - gladly provided :)
The apartment has two bedrooms:
1. King bed - OR two long singles
2. Queen bed.
3. A children's portacot or toddler mattress can be made available and fits in either room as needed.
**nightime babysitting can be arranged with my two daughters (16 & 19) who are experienced babysitters and very good with children (an hourly fee applies) 🙂
The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, microwave and stovetop for all cooking needs. If you would like to eat-in and BBQ on the deck to enjoy the view, a Weber BBQ is available.
A high quality independent supermarket (Hill St's Salad Bowl) is approximately 6-7 minutes down the hill and they have an excellent selection of groceries and pre-prepared meals.
- The kitchen is well stocked with the basics:
- Quality tea, coffee and herbals
- Spreads, vegemite, homemade jam and honey
- Oil, sea salt & pepper
- Milk of your choice
- General sauces & pantry items
There is no washing machine in the apartment but guests are welcome to use ours (includes washing powder) for $5.00/load. We have a drying rack if you would like to dry clothes outside or a clothes dryer is available for an extra charge. Just let me know and we can arrange during your stay.
We provide guests with:
- Wifi
- Off street parking with a dedicated car park spot.
**Please note there is a short walk of approximately 40m to the apartment door with about 20 steps (a gentle 10 on the garden path and a flight of approx 12 stairs) to the front door.
Lastly, ask me for the recommendations of a local! I've lived here all my life and have worked as a tourism guide for several years, so I know a few good spots :)

We are situated on the edge of the mountain reserve - bushwalks/mountain biking trails are on your doorstep. Its common to see black cockatoos, pademelon, wallabies and quolls on your trip home if after dark :)
