My place is convenient for Wilderness, Blenheim, Cornbury events. It is close to Blenheim Palace, Woodstock (4 miles); Witney (4 miles); Burford (5 miles); Chipping Norton (6 miles); Oxford (12 miles) and Stratford (30 miles). Charlbury railway station is just 2 miles away, where there is a regular service to London (Paddington) which takes just over an hour. Room has double bed, tv and books. Suitable for solo adventurers, cyclists and business travellers. A second room is also available.

The space
The base price (week days) is £35 per room, with a £15 surcharge if the room is to be shared. The room is a single aspect room which looks out onto the village lane and countryside beyond at the front. It has a new, comfortable double bed and clean sheets and bedding (though not ironed, time is too short!). There's a flat screen tv with freeview, well stocked bookshelves, 1 of my son-in-law's original paintings on the wall (his work having been accepted at the R.A. summer exhibition) and antique mirrors and rug. A small kettle is also provided.

Guest access
You will have the use of the upstairs bathroom and shower; I usually use the shower and bathroom downstairs when there are guests, so the upstairs bathroom, which is opposite the guest room, is yours. Breakfast is basically a simple affair with coffee, tea, milk, Greek style yoghurt, muesli, various breads for toasting, marmalade, jams and marmite readily available. You may use the kitchen at breakfast only.
Other meals: there are a number of friendly pubs in the local area, all of which serve good food. Five minutes' walk away, the Plough in Finstock is deservedly popular, but be aware that it doesn’t serve food on Sunday night or Mondays.

Other things to note
You may hear me playing guitar or singing sometimes, though that usually happens well away from the room you'll be using. (I perform occasionally with friends at local folk/blues clubs.) I'm quite a keen walker, so can recommend good local routes.

Finstock is a pretty but unpretentious village set round a hill in the Cotswolds. My house is a 1920s semi which is five minutes' walk from the local pub, the Plough, which is friendly and which serves good food. The Village Shop is also about 5 minutes away in the opposite direction. There are plenty of interesting and pretty walks nearby.

I am a semi-retired teacher who still works, mainly from home, but also occasionally in Oxford. I have 3 grown-up daughters who all live their own lives. In my 20s I spent 3 years living in Denmark and one year in France before returning home to settle down; my knowledge of Danish and French is now very rusty but I always watch the subtitled Scandinavian and French drama series (The Killing? Engrenages?) that are shown on BBC4 and Channel 4. I enjoy meeting people from other countries. I have relatives in Canada, the States and Australia; in fact it was the experience of an Aussie great-nephew who had a very happy time travelling round the world using airbnb, that encouraged me to join up as a host. I have a house lined with books, cluttered with various musical instruments (which only get played in the school holidays, well away from earshot of anyone else), and piles of films on DVD, as I used to teach Film and Media as well as English literature. I also love walking and feel lucky to live here in West Oxfordshire in the foothills of the Cotswolds. There are rural walks in every direction from my house. I love film and theatre, and am a Friend of the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford and attend performances there regularly. Stratford is only a pleasant 50 minute drive from here; Woodstock and Blenheim Place are 10 minutes away; Oxford is 25-30 mins). The nearest train station is just 2 miles away, in Charlbury. The new Oxford Parkway station is about 22-25 mins., closer and much more convenient than the old Oxford Station. The Cotswold market towns of Witney and Burford are 15-20 mins away.

During your stay
I'll be there to meet'n'greet, and also help out at breakfast. I am also very happy to offer help and advice about local things to do and see. However I'm pretty busy, especially in term time, and am likely to be out and about quite a lot.
