Ben's Yurt and Cabin are close to Cartmel, and the southern Lake District. You’ll love it because it is unique - so far as I know it is the only wooden yurt! Set in a secluded corner of a south facing garden - it is peaceful, with lovely views, and ten minutes from the lake. Great for couples, friends, and solo adventurers

The space
The Yurt and Cabin are set in a private corner of a south facing garden. It is well screened by hedges and trees, and has a lovely view of Hampsfell. The Cabin has a double, and a single, in the same room, so friends, as well as couples, can share it. The bathroom and kitchen are in the Cabin too, and the Yurt is for relaxing, playing games, and listening to music. Outside is a gas BBQ., a fire pit, and outdoor seating - perfect for stargazing

Guest access
The Yurt is in its own part of the garden, so that is your space - although you will almost certainly get a visit from Puffin, the dog, as she is always looking for a playmate to throw her a ball! Access is through a gap in the hedge, with parking beside it, so it is only ten yards to the Cabin door, when you are loading and unloading

Other things to note
I almost invariably get great reviews for the Yurt and the Cabin, but occasionally with the added remark that there were "bugs". To explain: the Yurt and the Cabin are in a garden, beside a hedge, in the middle of the countryside, and will therefore always have some form of insect life around: the odd spider, perhaps (but they eat flies, so don't kill them. If you don't like them, catch them in a glass, and take them to another part of the garden to let them go). In the spring there are often a few flies, and in the summer, the occasional midge, bee, and wasp will visit. There are also bats, rabbits, badgers, and - hopefully not - foxes, plus owls hooting and the hens clucking. If the normal flora and fauna of the countryside alarm you, the Garden House might be a better choice, as that is more isolated from nature, but nothing that visits you in the Yurt will do you any lasting harm - who knows, you might even catch a glimpse of my two shy and elusive cats, Fuss (b/w) and Bother (tabby)
The only other thing you need to bring is a net of logs (you can get them at the garage) for the fire-pit, if you are going to use that. I can get these in for you, if you like. There is usually plenty of wood for kindling, but it is in the woodshed, so that it stays dry. Ask Cate where to find it

Location

Field Broughton, England, United Kingdom

Cartmel is a medieval village, exactly two miles away, and - as well as its impressive Priory, is home to Britain's no 1 restaurant - l'enclume. There are several pubs, and Rogan and Company, which is the sister restaurant to l'enclume, so you won't go hungry. There is also a micro brewery, a cheese shop, a wine shop, a deli., and the world famous Sticky Toffee Pudding shop too! Racing four times a year, on one of the country's smallest racecourses, and - if all this isn't enough - Windermere is ten minutes drive away, and the central Lakes is about half an hour's drive - on a good day!!
The Crown, at High Newton, is a mile's walk, up the lane, and serves pub-type food. An interesting place to visit, at Low Newton, is Yew Tree Barn. It hosts a variety of businesses, but was started as an architectural reclamation yard. There is a very good cafe - Harrys - and a shop, as well as a blacksmith, a cabinet maker, and much more. Open during the day, but not in the evening

I have always lived in the Lake District, and - for many years - worked in Ambleside, alongside my late husband, who opened one of the first outdoor shops in the UK. We chose to live in the Cartmel Valley, as it is quieter than the Central Lakes. I have been welcoming guests to Broughton House for the last nine years, and really enjoy meeting people from all over the world. I love to travel, and especially enjoy getting off the beaten track. My son has a hostel in Colombia, so that amazing country is my top destination for now. I also enjoy a spot of light globe-trotting in my Citroen 2cv., Modestine. Closer to home when time allows - I am very happy walking the beautiful Lakeland fells, with Puffin, my Border Collie
