Why Stay Here?

I've had the wonderful pleasure of staying with some incredible Airbnb hosts in my recent travels to Brazil, Puerto Rico, San Diego and Aruba. These hosts went out of their way to make sure my time spent with them was remarkable. Now it is my time to return the favor.

What's so great about the space?

I've lived in and owned this 3 bedroom condo for 10 years now. I love it here. It's the perfect balance of proximity to New York City with a large amount of living space at a very reasonable price in a safe neighborhood.

You will be staying in a fully furnished, large bedroom with a large bed, a dresser, and your own closet. There's a shared kitchen with all sorts of goodies if you like to cook. The living room has a monster projector and surround sound speakers way more powerful than you could ever need and three supremely comfortable couches for all the lounging you could ever desire.

How amazing is the location?

Quite amazing! It's a 10 minute bus ride into Times Square and the heart of the action. The bus runs 24 hours a day, is super convenient running every few minutes, and picks you up and drops you off a half block from the apartment. Often times, I get home quicker than many of my friends who live somewhere in NYC.

Weehawken is a very safe, residential town full of spectacular history. You'll get a parking pass if you need street parking. Restaurants, super markets, convenience stores, pharmacies, and banks are all within walking distance. Oh, and you're just a few blocks away from Hamilton Park which was voted "Best View" of the New York City skyline.

This sounds perfect! What else do I need to know?

I'm the CEO of a web development company that builds apps and websites for startups and entrepreneurs. As a result, I'm available to my clients 24/7. I extend that to my guests as well. Call, text, email, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), whatever. I know things come up and I'm available for whatever you need. You can come and go as you please, whatever hours you please. Oh, the apartment is pet friendly.

If you have any questions, send me a message and I'm happy to help in any way I can regardless of whether or not you decide to stay here.

The space was really comfortable. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and air conditioning. At the end of the street you get wonderful views across the river to New York and it's about a 10 minute walk to Hamilton Park which was voted to have the best view of NYC. The bus stop is less than 5 minutes walk from the door with regular bus services running into midtown Manhattan for $3.50. You can also walk down to the ferry across the Hudson to midtown which costs $9. It's very convenient to get into the city with a nicer space at a more affordable price than most places in Manhattan.

We had a great stay at Johns place and really enjoyed being able to get away from all the chaos in NY at the end of the day. Room was clean and very spacious, neighbourhood was charming and the views of the Manhattan skyline was stunning. John was very helpful and had no qualms answering any questions we had about NY. Thank you John for the enjoyable experience!

This place is a great base from which to explore Manhattan. The view across the river from the park at the end of the block is spectacular, and the bus into Port Authority Bus Terminal (Times Square) takes about 15 minutes or so. The housing itself is basic. The immediate neighborhood reminds me of the upper West Side forty years ago--very mixed (Range Rovers parked on the street, housing projects a few blocks away, new construction down by the water), in other words, in transition. The restaurants in the immediate neighborhood are more oriented towards takeout than dine in. Bottom line--I would stay there again without hesitation.

Beautiful location. Place was very comfortable and close to public transport. John was very accommodating and easy to reach if we had any questions. Would definitely stay again!

John is a great host and this is a great stay for what we were looking for. I took my 16-year old son to NYC and it was perfect to show him the ease of mass transit from the suburbs to the city. We never saw John, but his instructions were easy to follow and the apartment was a great place to sleep, shower, and easily get back to the city. The bus stop is a 2 minute walk from the front door; buses come by every 5-10 minutes and straight into NYC. Food was a close walk in the morning. The apartment was clean, quiet, and easy. I would recommend John's place as long as you don't want to be right downtown (of course, you don't have to pay downtown prices with John either :) ).

PLEASE DON'T book this place. We had a terrible time with this place. The photos are very old. The room was too messed up and filthy. It was stinking badly. Hadn't been cleaned at all. John would take more than 24 hours to reply. And then he would get another room cleaned because he has another guest arriving and wouldn't clean your room. The room doesn't even have lights. It already has too much stuff of his own and you barely have space to keep your luggage. The bathroom flush doesn't work at all. The bath tub was also blocked. The main door locks are also broken. Felt so unsafe. A terrible experience.

I've recently had some fantastic experiences on Airbnb. My hosts added so much value to my trips, and I could not thank them enough -- particularly in Puerto Rico and Brazil with my Spanish and Portuguese being subpar at best. I felt an overwhelming need to return the favor to random travelers in NYC, and the best way I could think of to do this was to become a host myself.

I am really just starting to make traveling a priority for me and am super excited to see all that the world has to offer. That being said, I've been in the NYC area for over 10 years now, and I still find something new and amazing every day. I guess that means I still have a lot of exploring to do!

If I have my way, I'll never stay in a hotel again in my life. I love that Airbnb allows me to meet some many interesting people from all over the world and play a little tiny part in their adventures. And now I'm super excited to experience this from the other side as a host.
