The space

Come and vacation on beautiful Lieutenant Island and experience the true beauty of Cape Cod. As you cross the wooden bridge to the Island, you'll immediately feel release from all the stresses of daily life. Lieutenant Island a beautiful Island neighborhood of Wellfleet with a handful of desolate beaches you and your guests will have access to. Discover another world of birds and sea creatures in the salt marshes, and relax endlessly on beautiful bay beaches. Bring your groceries and a group of people you love, and allow a stay at this little gem to clear your mind and reinvigorate your spirit. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom mid-century modern cottage recently refurbished with new septic and well, new furnishings and new large fridge has a queen in one BR with ensuite bath and twin bunks with a full size bed in the other bedroom across from the second bathroom. A large walkout finished basement has flatscreen and DVD player for movie watching. Den has two futon sofas for guests. (You can enter this walkout basement by a narrow ladder or by walking outside and through the sliding glass doors). You'll think you've travelled back in time to Old Cape Cod. This Lieutenant Island Mid-century cottage is nestled within the cooler pine forest of the island. Light, breezy, comfortable, and equipped for a vacation to treasure, it's a short distance in any direction to the island's warm water beaches. Relax on the spacious deck after taking a hot outdoor shower with two shower heads. Dine alfresco and enjoy the large smoker/barbeque grill. Curl up with a movie and watch on the 48" 1080p LED HDTV or a good book in the cozy living room. WIFI and 144 TV channels on cable provided. The island beaches are perfect for swimming and kayaking. Boat on Blackfish Creek, Wellfleet Harbor, and Cape Cod Bay. Bring your fishing pole and snag flounder, striped bass, or bluefish. The bike trail is a 10 min bike ride from the house across from Lt Island Rd on Rt6 directly behind Bob's Sub and Pizza. The National Seashore is within a 5 minute drive or 15min bike ride of the Island. Wellfleet's town center has a thriving artist community with several of the best art galleries in New England. It also hosts many restaurants and a live theatre group who perform throughout the summer. The tip of the Cape, Provincetown, is about a 30 minute drive. Provincetown has great shops, boutiques, restaurants, beaches, and art galleries and is where you can catch a boat for a whale watch or go over to Boston for the day on the ferry.
Access the island by car/bike/foot across a wide, scenic marsh and one-lane wooden bridge. Please note that the bridge is inaccessible at times during high tides ( over 10 feet). This adds to the charm and relaxation (and the bridge makes a great diving platform!). However, some guests may not like this feature. If you have questions, just let us know. We can point you to the tide chart for your planned visit as needed. Linen and towels are not included. There is no A/C or washer/dryer. One non shedding type dog under 50 lbs may be considered.

Other things to note

Please note that the bridge is inaccessible at times during high tides ( over 10 feet). This adds to the charm and relaxation (and the bridge makes a great diving platform!). However, some guests may not like this feature. If you have questions, just let us know. In General:
If the tide is under 9.5 ft the bridge and road will not
get covered and you will be able to cross.
At 10 ft you will need to wait around 30 minutes on
each side of high tide before you will be able to
cross. At 11 ft you should wait around 1 hour on
each side of high tide before crossing. At 12 feet
wait 2 hours on each side of high tide before
crossing. At 12.5 ft wait 2.5 hours on each side of
high tide before crossing. If it is a windy day the
water will cover the road and bridge much quicker.
Always use your best judgement.

There was nothing not to like about this house on Lieutenant Island. The house was warm and inviting, heavy on the Cape Cod charm. The private beach we went to several times may very well be my favorite beach ever (although my sons were partial to the big waves at Nauset, because boys). High tide at the bridge was easy to plan around. Overall, it was a perfect place to stay.

We had the best time at this beautiful house on a beautiful island! We walked the whole island one day! We hope to go back next year for 2 weeks!

Great location! The house is very private with a great deck and a wonderful outside shower!!! The high tide can be a problem, make sure you plan around it.

Very nice place. Very rustic and quiet. I like being in the woods with the ocean right there. The downstairs is like a separate apartment. Good place to stash the kids.

What more can you ask for than a scenic, secluded getaway with a private beach, relaxed atmosphere and modern amenities? We found the cottage quaint, cozy and the location was perfect to spend a week exploring the Cape while having a great home base to come back and enjoy an evening on the deck or on the couch. Being out on the island does mean you should have a tide schedule, but we enjoyed the little bit of seclusion. It kept the heavy peak-season cape traffic away and gave us some fantastic views, along with great sunsets on the private beach, without having to struggle for parking. All in all, a very enjoyable time and the host's directions and instructions made for a smooth, hassle-free stay.

I stayed here for Memorial Day Weekend with my parents and husband. None of us have ever been to the Cape and were pleasantly surprised when we got onto Lieutenant Island. It's truly something special. Being from NYC, we loved being in the quiet, secluded area surrounded by birds and water. The house itself is incredibly charming, clean, and cozy. Damian was very accommodating to us and allowed us to bring my parent's little dog. FOLLOW HIS DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE HOUSE. Our GPS led us to the wrong house, but his directions are very detailed and got us there just fine. Also, plan your driving time according to the tides. We were worried about it controlling our trip, but it ended up not being a big deal at all :) We hope to come back again for another relaxing weekend!

I enjoy my time managing the Wellfleet rental department at Sweetbriar/William Raveis. After living away I missed the special lifestyle that only the Outer Cape can bring and moved home. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of Cape Cod with visitors so they too feel right at home.
