So I came to japan to snowboard and booked a cheap Airbnb at Maiko's not really thinking too much about it. Maiko's place is an experience. Just like the other reviews say it's an old school that got turned into a restaurant / hostel. As soon as I got there I was greeted by Maiko and was immediately treated like family catching up with each other. She showed me the room where I'd stay and then a small tour around the place. By the way, the pictures don't do it justice. It's... very unique and I can't really describe it. So you'll just have to see for yourself. When I said I was treated like family, that's pretty much what happens. You become apart of their family. You eat with them, play with the kids, hang out with the grandparents and their dog, and just enjoy the place. It's funny how the language barrier makes the experience better in a sense. You just laugh at each other and try to talk with your hands lol. And let Maiko cook for you! It's delicious and there's a lot of it. I was fortunate enough that I got to eat a special dinner with the whole family on daughters day. It was a pretty big deal and my stomach will never forget it. All in all Maiko's place is an experience of what local life can be like, and I feel blessed to be able to have experienced it :)

It was really comfortable staying and I got an amazing experience to have communication with owner family of this accommodation and other tourists who were staying here :) Maiko and her mother is really kind, bright. Also their cooking was so delicious ! We had Mongolian mutton barbecue with some other guests. It was so exciting dinner !! I' so glad that Maiko's son became to close with my son. He is very friendly and so cute boy ;) By the way, this accommodation is nice historical building :) It had been used as a primary school and it has really nostalgic atmosphere. You can play in large gym and play billiard at this accommodation. If you hope to make relationships with nice persons in this area,I highly recommend this place. You can make good friends, and get wonderful experience here !!

I truly loved staying in Maiko's place. She was very welcoming and helped give me lifts when I needed. She's also a great cook so if you opt for her dinner and breakfast, you're in for a treat! The house itself is beautiful and with a lot of really cool decorations and beautiful surroundings!

Very unique place (used to be a school), we spent 3 nights there with 1 kid and 1 baby, with warm hospitality from Maiko and her families! She could cook good food, my daughter loved to stay with her even they couldn't communicate, by reading Japanese story books, she has been very patient like a mum to her! It's reasonably for the price, a good place to meet nice people! That helps if you drive to ski area or check out around! We will be here for sure if we come again to Hokkaido! Thank you so much Maiko and all the best to your family!

Staying at Maiko's place was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. The old elementary school that she has converted into a hostel type accommodation was charming and cozy. There is plenty of memorabilia to take in and get a taste of Japanese culture and history. We slept in a traditional tatami room with other travelers. There were plenty of cushions, comforters and blankets. The room was well-heated and had hangers and racks to dry out our ski clothes. The bathrooms were shared and had a sink to wash hands and brush teeth. At one end of the hallway was a small onsen room which Maiko graciously offered to us between the hours of 5 and 9 p.m. We chose to pay for breakfast and dinner at Maiko's and enjoyed each meal in the cozy dining room by the wood fire place chatting with other guests. There was always plenty of Sapporo beer to drink at the end of our long ski day. The traditional Japanese food she prepared for us was hearty and made with local ingredients. It was some of the best food we enjoyed on our trip. Maiko was kind and warm and she and her 3 children made us feel so comfortable. We hope to stay at Maiko's place on our next trip to Hokkaido!
