From the moment you drive up, the jaw-dropping panoramic views from this oceanfront beach house will amaze you. Located on the eastern tip of the Big island in a private, gated, residential area, this secluded jewel is truly one of a kind. The open floor plan features vaulted ceilings, views from every window, ceramic tile flooring throughout, 1400 feet of shoreline, a covered lanai, and sits on a little over 2 acres. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps 5.

The space

Located on one of the largest and most private oceanfront lots in the entire Kapoho area, Alapai Point Retreat will take your breath away! Located in the gated Kapoho Beach Lots community right on the eastern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island, the house’s two acre oceanfront  parcel sits right at the very end of  Alapai Point, affording jaw dropping, panoramic ocean views from every window.  Enjoy the serene sunrises; watch the whales play while enjoying a glass of wine from the hot tub on your own private lanai!

You’ll be captivated from the moment you drive through the private gate and wind your way down the long driveway as it follows the shore. Stands of ironwood trees and naupaka give way to the deep blue ocean view that surrounds you. You’ll pass the small palapa - furnished with a comfy cushioned lounge chair - that overlooks the private swimming pond right at the ocean’s edge. Soon you’ll see the house itself, elevated against the backdrop of blue ocean, black rock and green jungle.  There are 1400 feet of shoreline on the large private lot, with the open ocean to the south of the house, and the calmer waters of Kapoho Bay to the north where you can grab your reef shoes and take a refreshing dip!

Alapai Point Retreat has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and a day bed in the living room, accommodating up to 5 guests. You’ll climb the stairs and enter into the great room where you’ll get your first taste of the jaw-dropping, panoramic ocean view that you’ll never grow tired of. The kitchen, living and dining areas are all combined under vaulted ceilings, with ceramic tile floors and a wall of windows along the back of the house – and plenty more windows everywhere else. You’ll appreciate how well the home was designed to maximize the view!!

The living room area features a beautiful new leather sofa and love seat, and there’s a twin sized day bed tucked up against the south windows for your 5th guest – or for your oceanview, afternoon nap!  There’s a wall-mounted TV with satellite reception - if you can drag your eyes away from the ocean, that is.

On the opposite end of the great room is the dining area, with a glass top table and seating for 5. The open kitchen is tucked behind the dining area and features all the large and small appliances you’ll need, including a flat top electric range, side-by-side fridge with water and ice dispenser, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, rice maker, and a dishwasher. You’ll also find pots, pans, dishes, glasses, knives… in short, everything you’ll need to prepare, cook and serve meals.

Head out through the sliding glass doors at the back of the great room and onto the large covered lanai that runs the entire ocean-side of the house. You’ll spend a lot of time out here, enjoying your morning coffee or evening cocktails at the small dinette, or soaking in luxury in the hot tub with its 180+ degree ocean views!

Back inside, the hall will lead you to the bedrooms, both of which have large closets, queen beds and amazing ocean views! The master bedroom faces the south side of the property, with views of the open ocean. Watch the white caps – and even whales, in season! -  through the giant windows from the comfort of your bed! You’ll enjoy plenty of storage with a closet and dresser. There’s also an ensuite bathroom with a shower over tub set up so you can enjoy your choice of bathing method.

Just across the hall is the second bedroom with a wrap-around view of Kapoho Bay. Around the corner from this bedroom is the second bathroom, with a stall shower and – wait for it! – a fantastic ocean view. The large washer and dryer are stowed in the large hall closet just outside of this bathroom.

This unique home sits across the bay from the very popular Champagne Pond, where you can often swim and snorkel with green sea turtles in waters that are geothermally hated to a luxurious 90+ degrees. Watch the cruise ships go by on their way from Hilo to Kona, and enjoy the waters of Kapoho Bay, at the Wai Opae Tidepools just a mile south in Kapoho Vacationland (with some of the best snorkeling in the state!) or just down the Red Road at Ahalanui Beach Park (aka "Warm Pond") or Kehena, the local clothing-optional black sand beach, Kehena. Eclectic Pahoa Town is 9 miles from Kapoho, with yummy restaurants, fun shopping, and necessities like convenience and grocery stores, banks, gas, etc. Historic Hilo is 45 minutes from Kapoho, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about an hour. The possibilities from this stunning location are endless!

Spectacular location. Several upgrades could turn it into a first rate place, such as replacing the towels, linens, mismatched pots and pans, lamps, and worn outdoor furniture. Hot tub was in good shape and working well. First place I've ever stayed that didn't have any clocks other than on the stove. Good value for the money. Check in and out instructions were clear.

We had a lovely visit. The place is remote, quiet, and the view is fantastic.

Beautiful location but did not have a place for kids to swim. Not a child friendly place. I have a one year old and it was very dangerous for him (lanai, cabinets, drawers not secure).

The views from this home was spectacular. We enjoyed searching the tide pools, watching sunsets and sunrise, the hot tub as well as the ability to cook some meals and not eat out all the time. Great snorkel spots close by as well as the Kilueah volcano. Awesome job!

Absolutely gorgeous location! Excellent tide pooling during low tide, fall asleep to the sounds of waves; view beautiful Kapono Bay and the vast ocean beyond; comfortable beds and furnishings with washer/dryer and all modern conveniences. Perfect spot to really get away from it all!!

This home is in a beautiful, secluded location on Kapoho bay near the town of Pahoa. The deck had incredible 360 views of the ocean, spectacular sunrises, and a hot tub to enjoy during windy and rainy evenings. The home was the perfect size for two couples traveling together. The living and dining areas were spacious, and well equipped. The home is about a 20-30 minute drive from town. This was a great location to explore the lush south coast of the island, Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii's "hot" springs, and Hilo. The only down side to our stay was the lack of fans in both bedrooms, and one of the bathrooms. Hopefully this will be addressed soon, as the house is in a hot and humid part of the island, which made it difficult to sleep at night.

Love this place. It is truly magical and cures all your stress. Did not want to leave. The dolphins playing just outside every morning made it extra special. Excellent communication, no issues at all. Highly recommend this gem. Worth every penny.
