We, Tom and Judy, welcome you to our quintessential Maine turn-of-the-century “beach house.” Tall Pines is a two-minute walk down a private way to spectacular ocean views and the incredibly soft sands of aptly named Grand Beach. Nestled on a wooded five-acre lot, this very special Pine Point, Scarborough, Maine property has been loved and enjoyed by our family and friends since 1929. Tall Pines is also available Off-Season @ Tall Pines: Quintessential Maine Beach House
Tall Pines is a large property which offers lots of inside and outside options for places to hang out and enjoy the wonders of Maine. It was traditionally known as "the summer house" but in 2015 we retired here and have had it fully winterized and updated. There is the house its self and a separate building, two story garage. On the second floor of the garage is a billiard room available for shared use during spring, summer and fall. You will enter the house via the front porch which wraps around the large living room. There is an adjoining dining room which seats 8 or more and leads to a charming custom kitchen designed to look original to the house but which offers the convenience of a contemporary kitchen. The three season back porch is off of the kitchen and offers a special place to hang-out, eat, or sleep. The pass through room is our information center having wifi access, bulletin board full of places to go, and our library. A "T" shaped hall leads to the four bedrooms and bath. Each room is unique and full of character with comfy beds and linens. On one side of the front porch we have set up a space for kids with toys, games, books and art supplies to help keep the younger set busy. All who have come think it is a magical place.
We have 4 bedrooms which can sleep up to 9 guests. There are two bed rooms with queens, a room with two singles and a bunk room with a trundle. There are also additional sleeping options on both porches. The front porch has a wonderful day bed that sleeps one and the back porch has a day bed that sleeps one but has a pull-out pop-up that is another single and makes this a king size option. There is one full bath in the main house and auxiliary bath with laundry on first floor of the garage. This rental is for up to 12 people. The billiard room has 2 futons; there is an additional fee for exclusive use of this space. Guests have private access to the main house and exclusive use of the large front yard where you can access: the hammock, swing set, fire pit, room for games as well tables and chairs for sitting and looking out at the ocean across the street. There is parking for 5 vehicles in the yard.
Interaction with guests
We occupy a suite that is located on the lower level so we will be there to meet and great and do our best to make your stay here wonderful.
Other things to note
On the lower level there are two living spaces: our suite and an apartment. The later is rented year round. The tenant is very knowledgeable about the property and can offer information if we happen to be away. People generally know that Maine is fantastic in the summer but the other seasons are wonderful too. All local restaurants stay open at least until Columbus Day Weekend and others year round. Portland is known for its many fine restaurants and is close by. Proximity to the Maine Mall, Kittery Outlets, and the town of Freeport with LLBean and many, many, other stores makes this location a perfect one to launch a shopping trip. And what could be more perfect than being able to come back to Tall Pines to truly kick back and rest. There are also many seasonal and sporting events as well as plays and concerts in the area to attend. The breweries and brew pubs are also a big draw.

We and our sweet shitzu dog Cinder, have moved into this wonderful place full time. We lived in and loved Portland for many years; and it is there that we raised two daughters, were foster parents, and began our joyous experience of being grand parents. Now we are retired and ready to enjoy life at its fullest. Tom’s career started as a teacher but for his last 30 years he has worked in customer service research at LLBean. Judy started her work life in the restaurant business but, has been a social worker serving children and families for her last 30 years. Our work reflects our interest in people and their well being. We have many loves that are evident in our home: playing and listening to music, watching movies and sports, making memories, celebrating holidays, promoting a child’s joy, reading a good book especially mysteries, appreciating nature, enjoying solitude or pleasure in the company and engaging conversation of others. Life is good in Maine. Come to Tall Pines for a true Maine experience you will always remember .
