For two couples, a family of four, or a romantic weekend, choose “Barbie’s Bunkie” which is the original 560 square foot log home built with logs harvested, by horse, from Algonquin Park’s coniferous forests (founded in 1893). The adventurous type will feel right at home staying in “Moose Lodge” a fantastically created expedition tent-think Glamping (Glorious Camping). Last, but not least, “Nanamitagong Tipi” fittingly named after the Aboriginal name given to the nearby town of South River.

A geological survey in 1854 referred to the current South River as the “Red Chalk River” or “Nanamitagong” meaning “Paint River” in light of it’s high iron content and hence it’s rust colour.

The moose lodge is absolutely breathtaking. The property is stunning and the host is very kind and accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone that wishes to spend their time secluded, yet not far from town. The cabin is elegant and screams character. The owner has really achieved greatness with this place. I will be returning.

The cottage was amazing. From pre-booking to check-out Barb was always available to answer my questions. The cottage is close to town (15 min drive), had an amazing view of the pond, wrap around the porch allowed us to stay out late, and the inside is extremely clean and cozy. A must for any cottage lover. Will definitely try and rent it again in the future!

This cottage is superb: location is great, cottage is super clean, the host (Barb) is very supportive and flexible, great attention to the details are evident throughout the property. If you have started your search for a cottage, look no further; if you are not sure, just go for it... trust me, you will not regret it. Our experience was very pleasant.

Algonquin Moose Lodge is one of the best cottages I've ever stayed at (I've rented cottages at least twice a year for the last 5 years). When I first contacted Barb, I was so impressed with how fast she responds to inquiries. It gave me complete confidence that I didn't need to worry about a thing. She's incredibly reliable, and very kind. Anytime I had a question - she responded nearly right away - as if we were good friends! Her directions to the cottage were perfect, and all of my guests arrived without an issue. Once we pulled up to the property, it was exactly as described (if not better!). When I first walked in, I couldn't believe how massive it was. The pictures don't do it justice -- it was a very spacious cottage. You immediately fall in love with its authenticity, and comfort. The kitchen was perfect for making dinner with a group of friends, and the dining table was big enough for our group of 10. The main living room area was really comfortable for day naps, and the satellite television was great for late night movies. The wi-fi service was also much appreciated to post our adventures on social media! The wrap around porch was completely screened in, which massively helped with keeping out mosquitoes which is expected at this time of year. The best part of the porch -- the view of the pond with all of its lily pads. You feel completely secluded from the world, and totally relaxed. The gas line BBQ was a perfect size for all the food we cooked for 10 people, and it was really clean! There was a large wood table on the porch and two large porch chairs which were great for reading. We often had dinner outside to take in the view, and the fresh air. The master bedroom/loft was idyllic! The comfy bed was filled with plush pillows, a comforter, linens, and cotton pillows. The master bathroom was modern, with a glass covered stand-up shower and lots of hand towels were available. Best part -- the piping hot water (especially after a long day of hiking!) The sliding barn doors were also a lovely touch. The walk-out basement included four very spacious bunks beds (big enough for large adults), with full linen, comforters, and pillows. We didn't need to bring a thing! It also included a full pool table and lots of games. There are some really cool antique items scattered throughout the home as well, which added to cozy-family feel of the home. The two private bedrooms were also really comfy, and all of my guests slept very well. We enjoyed the two large canoes in the pond, and generally enjoyed the feeling of being alone and surrounded by the beautiful forest around us. I can't say enough about this property - it had everything we could possibly need. Whenever I had a question - Barb was always there to respond. I loved...

A great relaxing space. The wrap around porch was very helpful in minimizing the mosquito flow while outside (bring your bug spray). Great fire pit! Sadly didn't see any moose, but saw a lot of moose tracks around the property. Lastly, lodge is close to Algonquin Park, however, you still have a pretty big distance to go to get to the good trails.

I've always loved Northern Ontario. I have 6 children all grown up now and the youngest is now 24 years old...oh my how the time flies!
When the kids were young I took them camping in Algonquin Park in all 4 season. Yes, including the winter we stayed in Yurts. The canoes at the cabin were made for my kids when they were much younger.
Now that the kids have all moved out I felt it was a perfect time for me to focus on my dreams. And from that dream my lodge was created. I purchased the property with the old log cabin...now called Barbies Bunkie. I completely renovated it and then also built the little Moose Lodge cabin and also the large Off the Grid cabin. I stayed in a tent during the process. Talk about commitment lol
Anyway, I worked as my own contractor and hired and supervised the trades as my dream was being built.
I have recently created a new road off the main one and I'm building new cabins repurposing shipping containers. Ill even be putting a gym in one of the air conditioned containers. Oh, the plans I have!
I hope that you enjoy your stay at the lodge as much as I do. Don't forget to get out at night and look up at the stars in the Northern sky.....they are truly spectacular. And during the day please be sure to look for moose in the pond and for their prints on the ground all around the property. They actually walk near the cabins late at night :))))
My sincerest wish, for you, is that you come and find what you were looking for- whether it be the wilderness, the hiking, the peacefulness, or just time to reconnect with friends and family. Its all here at .....Algonquin Moose Lodge
