This is the front bedroom. It has two windows and looks out onto the street. Could accommodate a family with two children or four people with minor modification. I love to cook and enjoy hosting so, my kitchen has all the essentials and some. Guest may use the kitchen area as long as you put the space back as it was immediately after use.

My location is 5 minutes from the L & M Trains - 15-20 minutes from 14th Street Union Square & West 4th Street (Manhattan). I live in a really cool-hip yet family rooted neighborhood. Nearby there are coffee houses, restaurants, bars/pubs, a major grocery store which offers fresh seafood, and there are bodegas everywhere. There are parks, a library and gym, with everything being within a 10 minute walk or less. It's all here! It may cost a few dollars more to stay here but it is worth it.

The space

I am a writer and the people who live in my building help to make my space special. Artist, musicians, and other creative types help to create a very cool environment. It may cost 5-10 dollars more per night to stay here but, it's worth it. You will enjoy your time here, seriously.

Guest access

The building requires a key-code to access. You are sharing my home - you have access to my home. All I ask/require is that you treat this space as my home and not a hotel. The rooftop is really nice, and there is a coin operated washer and dryer in the basement. If you have a request for something that is not here, I will access it for you. Come and share my space - enjoy your stay here and in NYC.

Interaction with guests

You will always have access to me. I will provide directions, information where you might find what you are looking for and, my opinion concerning where to go-where not to go. Depending on your situation and wants, we might spend part of a night or two checking out some of my favorite spots-hanging out with some of my crew who's company you will truly enjoy. While here in my home you are my responsibility. Come hang out-I got your back...:)

Absolutely loved loved loved the stay at Douglas's place. The apartment has an amazing energy, aesthetic and feel to it. Douglas was on hand to greet us upon arrival, which was great as one of the reasons we love to use Airbnb is the personable experience that comes with it majority of the time. He showed us around the place to get acquainted. Douglas is super welcoming & makes you feel at home right away. Any questions you can be assured he will be able to help in one way or another! He hosts weekly meet ups which is ace to meet locals during your stay here (if you wish to do so). We got sidetracked with the day and unfortunately missed the BBQ but he introduced us to his friends that popped by and so we met some great like minded people this way. Along with other Airbnb'ers! Great couple from France. Felt like a hostel vibe which was great. The room we stayed in was awesome, super clean and bed was super comfy with ample storage for 2 people. The great decor runs through the whole apartment. The bathroom is great and kept clean through out. Take some flip flops with you if you're not a fan of sharing bathrooms like you would at a hostel if you like, but we didn't have any issues with hygiene or cleanliness here. The kitchen is great and Douglas has a mini fridge available to use, so we brought fresh fruit and some breakfast type stuff from the local shop. Location is great with the subway being like 10 minutes or so walk from the apartment. Plenty of shops around and there's fast food joints by the subway too. Totally safe area, no issue walking back at midnight or 3am etc. The place has an awesome rooftop and views across to Manhattan too so take some time to enjoy that! Next time I'm back in NYC I'll definately be in touch with Douglas again. I've stayed at hotels before in NYC also and much preferred this over hotel. Highly recommend!

Douglas was a great host and is a lovely guy. Showed us around when we arrived and was super communicative. The apartment was small and cute and the area was thriving and close to the subway station. Would stay there again!

We really enjoyed our stay in Brooklyn and would definitely stay here again! Douglas was a very kind, helpful and open minded host, so we felt very welcome at his home. Our room was small, but cozy. The whole appartment was tastefully arranged and clean. The neighbourhood is nice and family frendly. The Subway station and an awesome supermarket are nearby.

My boyfriend and I stayed with Douglas for 4 days while we were looking for a place of our own to move to in December in the city. Douglas was great with immediate communication. His place was very clean and very nice! There was plenty of space for my boyfriend and I to put our stuff and relax when we needed to. The bathroom was very clean and very modern too! There is also a rooftop that you can see a view of the whole city from. It was magical. Thanks again Douglas!!

I taught at the university level for a long time. Now I am a freelance investigative reporter and a writer. I love to dance and performed and taught dance with my then wife and partner for more than 12 years. Now I teach for the fun of teaching dance and dancing.

I love to cook and enjoy sharing a good meal with friends. I host a weekly discussion session with street activist, academics and students. The product of these discussions will result in a 12 chapter edited book tentatively titled, "Can we talk about this."
