6 The Green is an exceptional Grade II listed, 17th-century thatched cottage, beautifully and imaginatively extended over recent months. Overlooking the picturesque village green, the cottage blends period character with contemporary luxury. Designed for 1–4 guests, this elegant countryside escape provides a serene haven, while remaining conveniently close to Bury St Edmunds, Mildenhall, Thetford, Cambridge and Newmarket, with easy access to the M11 and A14. Perfect for a relaxing rural getaway.

The space
Overlooking the village green, this is a wonderful place to escape and unwind. Relax in the cottage garden, curl up on the sofa in front of the log burner, or enjoy breakfast in the bright, airy kitchen or out on the patio. Evenings are perfect for candlelit dinners in the cosy dining area, followed by a peaceful night’s sleep and waking to birdsong.

The cottage features exposed beams, a stylish modern interior, and a pretty private garden with patio seating—an idyllic retreat for spending quality time with family and loved ones.

Accessed via its own private drive, the property offers parking for two cars.

There’s plenty to explore nearby. The cottage is ideal for couples, solo travellers, business guests and families, and is within walking distance of Lackford Lakes, Hengrave Hall and West Stow Country Park. Culford Park and RHS Fullers Mill are also close by.

Perfectly located for wedding venues including Hengrave Hall, Culford Park and Tuddenham Mill, it’s an excellent self-catering option for guests attending local celebrations. Newmarket and Cambridge are both around a 30-minute drive away.

Inside, the light and spacious accommodation includes two large double bedrooms. The master bedroom features a luxurious king-size bed with a memory foam mattress. The second bedroom is set up as a twin but can be made into a super king on request (24 hrs notice re'd) for added flexibility.

Guests have full access to the property, including a generous private rear garden. The garden features two patio areas—one accessed via French doors from the living room and the other through bi-fold doors from the kitchen—plus a decked seating area, perfect for enjoying warm summer days and evenings.

To help keep the cottage comfortable and safe for everyone, we kindly ask guests to note the following:

Sorry no pets.

The cottage is strictly non-smoking indoors. A designated smoking area with an ashtray is available on the patio.

Due to the thatched roof, BBQs and any open fires in the garden aren’t permitted.

Candles may be enjoyed indoors using the holders provided, but please ensure they’re extinguished when unattended, during sleeping hours, or when the property is vacant. Candles are not to be used outside.

The log burner is available during the winter months only (1st November–31st March).

For the comfort of neighbours and the care of the property, parties and events aren’t allowed.

Only guests included in the booking are permitted to stay.

Our cosy cottage overlooks a beautiful village green and is within easy reach of Bury St Edmunds town centre, Newmarket, Hengrave Hall, West Stow Country Park, Lackford Lakes, Culford Park, Lakenheath, Mildenhall, M11 and A14. All within 10 - 25 minutes drive away, which is super.

We are also only a few minutes away from Hengrave Hall, so if you are attending a wedding, 6 The Green is in the perfect location.

There are some fabulous country pubs and restaurants nearby too, so whether you fancy a casual lunch or dinner or something a little more special, there is something for everyone locally.

Hi! I’m Tracy, having moved to Bury St Edmunds in 2014, I spent time renovating our cottage and started hosting in 2017. Having worked in customer service for over 30 years, I always find it wonderful meeting people from all over the world. I have a passion for baking and making jams/chutneys from fruit in my garden. Also, love nothing more than spending time in the garden and enjoying wonderful country walks in the surrounding area.
