The Plough is a characterful three bedroom house situated in the small Cumbrian Hamlet of Banks. It is situated half a mile down the road from where the noted English Artist Winifred Nicholson lived, just a few miles from the pretty market town of Brampton, and a stones throw from Hadrian's Wall. The impressive Roman Fort of Housesteads is about 4 miles away and Vindolanda is about 13 miles from the house, Well worth a visit if you are interested Roman History.

The house is on the Hadrian’s Wall path coast to coast route. There are many beautiful rural walks around the area, including a stunning river walk in Coombe Craigs wood.

Nearby Brampton is a pretty small market town, offering a
good choice of shops and pubs, a Post Office, Tourist
Information Centre, and two banks. There is a very good farmers market selling local produce on the last Saturday in the month.

A nice place to have a meal out is the Samson Inn in Gilsland and also the Golden Fleece at Ruleholme.

Lanercost Priory and tea rooms are just down the hill,
combining the partly ruined Priory, founded in 1166 by
Henry the Second, and the recently built restaurant and gift shop.

Talking Tarn, near the charming village of Talkin, is
well worth a visit, being an area of natural beauty, with walks around the glacial tarn, wildlife, and café.

Housesteads and Vidolanda Roman Forts are 14 miles away.
