Ideal place to relax and unwind in Gothic splendour. Built in Tudor Gothic style, this impressive castellated stone structure enjoys glimpses out across the Firth of Forth. The rooms are furnished in keeping with the history of the building, while providing all the modern amenities you would expect. There's a magnificent living/dining area on the 1st floor with floor-to-ceiling windows and 2 stone fireplaces, and large wooden dining table. Off this huge room is a well-equipped kitchen.

There are 3 bedrooms on the top floor - one with a queen-size bed, one twin and one with a small double bed (suitable for 2 children or 1 adult). The latter has an en-suite bathroom with shower. The main bathroom has WC, sink, bath and shower attachment.

Guest access

Access to the top floor is either via a main stone staircase or via a fascinating internal spiral stone staircase. Children love to explore this ‘secret’ stairway!
Please note, there is no lift access.
Cot and high chair can be provided on request.
Guests have exclusive use of a private walled garden with a table and chairs. Access to the garden is via a gate at the side of the property. There is also a BBQ for guests use. (Charcoal not included.)

Interaction with guests

The ground floor office and meeting room at Kinghorn Town Hall are used by Fife Historic Buildings Trust.
Our main office is located just up the hill from the Town Hall and there is usually someone there during office hours should guests have any queries.

The neighbourhood

There are several shops on Kinghorn High Street, just a few minutes walk from the apartment. These include a baker, butcher, a Co-op supermarket, post office and chemist. There are also a number of pubs in Kinghorn. The Ship Inn opposite the Town Hall serves food (booking recommended), and there is also a ‘cupcake café'.
A number of high-street shops and supermarkets can be found in Kirkcaldy which is 4 miles away.

Kinghorn is a great base for exploring the many locations in Fife where the drama series 'Outlander' is filmed. Aberdour Castle, Falkland, Dysart Harbour and Balgonie Castle are only a short car journey away.

The beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie are easily reached by car, as are the historic towns of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.

From Kinghorn there is a regular train service that takes you across the famous Forth Bridge, straight into the heart of Edinburgh where you can visit the famous Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Sir Walter Scott's Monument, the Scottish Parliament Buildings, the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland or in the summer, take in a show at the famous Edinburgh Festival or military Tattoo. There is high-street and designer shopping on Princes Street and George Street, or you can enjoy the many bars, cafes and restaurants before returning by train to put your feet up in your ‘coastal retreat’!

There are plenty of activities locally to entertain families, whatever the weather, with play parks, a loch and ecology centre, indoor leisure facilities, and Kirkcaldy museum and art gallery all close by.

There is a quiet, sheltered beach only a few minutes walk from the apartment. At the other end of the village is Pettycur Bay - a long, wide stretch of golden sand which is excellent for walks and outdoor activities.

From here you will be rewarded with stunning views across the Firth of Forth towards Edinburgh and The Lothians. If the tide is out, you can walk right along to Burntisland.

Golfers will find plenty to keep them busy! Fife boasts over 45 famous, historic and challenging golf courses. Whilst Kinghorn has its own golf course, it is also just 20 miles from the world-famous home of golf, St Andrews, with its seven courses, including the famous Old Course.

Other courses nearby include Ladybank Golf Club, Lundin Golf Links and Scotscraig Golf Course. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place over three venues - Kingsbarns, the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie in Angus - every October

Getting around

Kinghorn is 24 miles from Edinburgh and easily reached by road. Airlines that fly to Edinburgh from other parts of the UK include Flybe, Easyjet, and BA. There are several car hire companies at Edinburgh airport. There is plenty of space for parking on the street outside Kinghorn Town Hall.

Kinghorn railway station is only a few minutes walk away and provides easy rail access to Edinburgh and to the north.

There is a bus stop across from Kinghorn Town Hall, which travels from Kinghorn - Dunfermline. There are several local taxi companies within the area.

Other things to note

Access to the top floor is either via a main stone staircase or via a fascinating internal spiral stone staircase. Children love to explore this ‘secret’ stairway!

My family and I had 3 wonderful days in Kinghorn. We were very pleased with the excellent service provided when checking in. The apartment exceeded all expectations with historical details and exclusive interior. We felt like a royal family while staying here:) The bedrooms are huge and we got to enjoy a lot of space as we traveled 4 adults, but would definitely recommend it to families as well. It was clean and had all equipment necessary. We were welcomed with bread from the local bakery and a bottle of wine, reflecting the high quality of service from Beth. We felt more welcome than we would ever do in a hotel. With the train station right around the corner we were able to go into Edinburgh for dinner and shopping (it only took about 40 mins). We also rented a car and went to St. Andrews for a day, which I would also recommend if you are a golf enthusiast. I would definitely come here again and would like to give my warmest recommendations to people considering renting this apartment.

Had the pleasure of staying at the town hall for 3 nights. This is such an amazing experience and if you are in or around the area I highly recommend! Communication with Laura was perfect and Suzanne gave us a warm and friendly welcome. I love character of this place and it's such a nice change to staying in hotels. Everything we needed was supplied for and although visiting for work, we found the time to visit both the crown inn pub a few minutes walk away with very welcoming and friendly locals. The ship inn over the road to the town hall is also worth a visit and serves great food, more of a restaurant than a pub. This will be certainly my first choice on any returns to the area. Our stay was made all that sweeter knowing that the fees paid were going towards the upkeep of an important historical building known and loved by many in Kinghorn. Not to be missed!

A very special place to spend a few days! The flat is extremely comfortable, and well set up, with everything we needed and more. The rooms are idiosyncratic, and charming, and the decoration is subtle and understated. The whole building oozes character and was exactly what we wanted. Staying here helped turn a special few days into a great memory!

We took a month-long trip through the UK, Ireland and (to a leser extent) Canada. There were 6 of us, over three generations. This was the 4th vacation rental that we stayed at, and we were tired when we got there. We are also almost impossible to please, as "we" range from young children to grandparents. We had approximately the same budget at all our accomodations. This was, hands down, the best place we stayed. We were welcomed with wine and delicious fresh bread - as well as fresh roses on the table. The actual home is stunning - we felt like lifestyles of the rich and famous. Great heating system, extremely well-equipped kitchen, and just luxurious. The secret, inner stairway was thrilling for the kids and, to be honest, the adults. Spacioud, well-appointed, super comfortable. Laura is so nice and helpful. What a treasure. The location is wonderful, easy to get to Edinburgh for the day by car or train, but super well-positioned for touring the Scottish castles. We got Explorer passes before we left, and were able to see St. Andrews, Stirling, and Lochleven during our relatively short stay (as well as Edinburgh castle). My father-in-law came down with a cold earlier in the trip, and we were able to take him to the doctor in the village without any problems - everyone is super accomodating. We have never seen such natural beauty as around this Scottish seaside home. Really, I can't recommend enough. If you are doing Scotland, this is the place to do it from.
