My house is nestled in the heart of the ancient little village of Castello. Parts of the house are over 500 years old. I have restored the house with a mixture of traditional and artistic styles: simple, cosy and rustic. Castello is just 25 minutes from the famous medieval town of Lucca, surrounded by beautiful chestnut forests, rolling hills and olive groves. You can relax in the house with wonderful views across the wooded valley or wander along ancient mule paths up into the Tuscan hills.

We had a wonderful stay here. There is so much care and attention to detail in every part of the house, both in practical and and in visual terms. Everything is presented thoughtfully (little signs etc) and arranged beautifully. The village is quiet and the light is beautiful. It…

I'm a little conflicted about this review. Firstly, the area around Castello is incredible. Watching the light change over the valley below, with church bells ringing throughout the day - it's really quite incredible. Our time there was made even better by Pete's helpful commun…

Hi Ross, Thanks for you feedback. Unfortunately, as you pointed out, we had seen unprecedented rains in the month leading up to your stay that caused the back wall of the living room to get really damp. The guests before you let us know about the problem and although we tried everything we could to get that room aired properly before your visit, it still wasn’t completely dry. And obviously letting you know about it in advance didn’t actually help with the damp in that room! So we are truly sorry that it had a negative effect on your stay. As soon as we were made aware of the problem we have installed new mosquito nets on the windows and invested in a dehumidifier. So thanks very much for the honest feedback. We hoped that we made it clear that the house is in a village and not totally secluded. So there are neighbours on both sides of the house. They are lovely, friendly, Italian country folk so its wonderful if you want a real slice of Tuscan village life. We will certainly take some more pictures to make sure that its clear that there are houses on both sides of the terrace. We are sorry that you didn’t like our furniture. We like it, but everyone has different tastes and you can’t please everyone, but we really appreciate your honest thoughts. Kind regards. Pete

We have never stayed in a place like it. It was a very rural building but had been updated skilfully though still with some dark damp corners. The ambience was very cool with sculptures and books a definite improvement on the normal type of old fashioned Italian rural gingham and…

I've just returned from a 4 night stay at Pete's idyllic Tuscan hideaway and I'm missing it already. The location is perfect for anyone who drives and wants to get up into the Apuan Alps for some walking or into Lucca for some city exploration, but I came by foot and public trans…

Beautiful place, not too far from Lucca (a car is needed to get there - the smaller the better too). Perfect for a quiet and relaxing holiday. The place is bigger than I expected and has got a lovely view. My partner and I loved sitting outside and reading in the sun.

Amazing place nestled in a very sleepy village in the Tuscan hills. There are plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding area but our favorite thing was sitting out on the little patio overlooking the valley with a glass of wine. This is the perfect place for some R&R. The…

Stunning beautiful and wonderfully quiet and secluded place with loads of rustic charm. This was our first ever visit to Italy and this little spot was the perfect place to spend it. The house is so great! Comfy bed, decent shower, and a kitchen equipped with all you'll need to c…
