Other things to note
There is usually a parking space right by the cottage, and if not there is parking in the village close to the cottage and you can load/unload the car outside. There is additional parking at the top of the village and it is totally safe everywhere.

Please note: This is a 300 year old cottage so some of the ceiling beams are quite low and the stairs are steeper and narrower than a modern house. It is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties or for very tall people.

I hope your doggie has a lovely time too! Just a few doggy house rules to keep everyone happy:

- No dogs upstairs or on the furniture

- Please keep dogs on leads at all times on the Row (outside the cottage) and when you take them down to the garden. The garden is offset from the cottage down a little path. It isn’t 100% secure and backs onto a field with livestock. However, the village is perfect for pootling around with your dog on traffic free alleyways and there are easy dog walks straight from the door, including the village orchard where there is no livestock.

- There’s a hose outside for muddy paws after your adventures

Neighbourhood highlights

This is the perfect base for walking and exploring Derbyshire’s Peak District National Park. Winster is a picture-perfect Peak District village, with friendly locals and fabulous views. With numerous walking trails and public footpaths including the Limestone Way only minutes from the house, 2 great traditional pubs (one is 2 minutes walk, the other a 7 minute walk) and Winster’s famous village shop, everything you need is on the doorstep.

Once you are here, there is no need to get in the car again until you leave.

Winster is listed in the Doomsday Book and is a Conservation Area, with most of its beautiful and unique 17th/18th century buildings being listed, built during Winster's leadmining heyday. However, despite the peaceful nature of the village, it is a real place with lots of character and friendly locals – great for a wander around the little narrow streets before you go to the pub!

It is also perfectly situated for exploring more of the White and Dark Peak with some of the best walks and stately homes in the country only a short drive away including Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. Bakewell is a lovely town to explore, with lots of interesting shops and cute cafes. There is enough here to keep you busy for years!

Where I went to school: Birmingham
My work: Gardener/ Designer
I have lived in the Peak District in Derbyshire since 2016, after 12 years of living and working on a sailing boat in the Med. I am now a gardener and planting designer and lucky enough to work in some beautiful gardens in Winster. Lancaster Cottage was my home for several years so it has many personal touches and lovely things in it, which I think makes it very special. As my passion is for the outdoors, I have designed the outside areas of the cottage to be as lovely as possible - they come into their own in spring, summer and autumn - though there is never a bad season in Winster, it is always beautiful.
