About this listing

Tranquil, private, setting amid stately Ohia trees with partial ocean views. The custom studio is 500sf with a limited height loft and large gorgeous bathroom and deck. Off grid with installed hi speed WiFi & cell booster.

The space

The Studio is newly remodeled with a handsome central Ohia post and Silver Oak trim throughout. All the trim wood came from the property. The main sleeping space is a 10' X 10' loft space with sloping limited height ceiling. Downstair we have two couches, one opens into a comfortable queen size bed as need. There is a spacious, custom tiled bathroom and a covered deck to enjoy a sunny breakfast outdoors with views of the pasture, Ohia trees and the distant ocean. For entertainment we have a medium size TV and a good supply of DVD's. The sound system is bluetooth accessible for a wireless connection to the music on your phone, lap top or pad. A cell phone booster in the Studio allows connection to the outside world, as needed.

Guest access

Guests have access to Honokaa town filled with Hawaiian artifacts, the famous Waipio Valley, Hilo Town and the famous Waimea town with its two Saturday markets and the best Island restaurants. The road to the top of Mauna Kea is not far. World class beaches of the Kohala coast are 45 minutes away and America's most visited attraction, the Volcano National Park, is a one hour drive, that's if you don't spend an hour first, in old Hilo town.

Interaction with guests

Only on an "as needed" basis. Baki lives in the yurt on the same property but is often at work or staying with Bailey in Puako. We will make contact with you before your arrival to give you directions and hopefully we will get a chance to meet you at the property at some point during your stay. Other important information for your stay is in the studio in a binder. Off grid living is the best!! We are always available by text or phone should you have any questions or problems.

Other things to note

You may find that on occasion a local rancher will drive down the road to water his cows in the acreage below our place. Also the neighbor dogs love to come visit our guests and you may see wild turkeys perched in the trees. General Excise Tax number available if requested

We had a great stay! Baki welcomed us and was very friendly. Her home was a cosy basecamp for exploring the east side of the Big Island. The location was the best - it was quiet and peaceful. The air felt super fresh and the chickens were really cute. It had everything we needed. Super relaxing stay and highly recommended!

We absolutely loved our stay. We did activities all over the island and this place made a good home base--we were never too far from anything. This is a very private and peaceful spot. It is off the grid, but you are not lacking anything you need. We were even pleasantly surprised to find that they had stocked the kitchen and even had beach equipment we could use.

We had a great stay here! Cozy little place away from the noise of the tourist areas. Fridge was stocked with eggs, milk and yogurt when we arrived. Only downside was we got lots of rain our last two nights there, it really is the wet side of the island.

Secluded and peaceful, Baki and Bailey's place is a gem. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to stay on the north side of the Big Island! They were truly great hosts! The studio was comfortable and clean with abundant wildlife right outside the door.

Had a wonderful stay. Upon arriving we found all kind of goodies prepared for us. Fruit, coffee, chocolate and some wonderful muffins. The grounds are beautiful and very quiet. We would be greated daily by wild turkeys and chickens. We highly recommend staying here.

The place from Baki&Bailey is wonderful and peaceful. We enjoyed our time there a lot. Baki&Bailey are so friendly and explained us all very well. A special thank to all the food we got in this well equipped kitchen. It's all very clean&comfy, the Wifi sometimes a little bit slow... but if you are out in this beautiful place, it doesn't really matter. You definitly need a car to get there and visit all the beautiful places around. It's well located to visit the VNP, Waimea&Hilo, Waipio Valley, Mauna Kea and the beautiful beaches on North Kona. We would definitly come back here, thanks for sharing this place with us!

We truly love meeting guests from all over the world and being able to share our unique and beautiful corner of the world, here in Hawaii. Our experience with Airbnb guest has been exceptional and the response gratifying.
We have been living in Hawaii for going on 20 years. We raised our four fabulous kids right here, in Paauilo. Bailey First came to Hawaii as Peace Corp volunteer in '69, going to Thailand.
My favorite vacation spot, is sailing in the British Virgin Islands, favorite city to eat is San Fran with Chicago tied and favorite city to visit NY. Arts aficionado, my wife a buff fitness nut and me a movie slouch.
I am Realtor in Hawaii and I also sell salted and smoked salmon from our fish days in Alaska (30yrs and counting) and spend way to much time volunteering for the arts and trying to raise $$, the bane of the arts world. Fascinated by the Universe thank you Keck and Canada France Observatories, a must stop when you visit.
