My place is close to family-friendly activities and outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, mushroom picking. You’ll love my place because of the views, the calm and the location (close to Lyon, 2 of the best restaurants in France like Paul Bocuse and George Blanc, cultural sites etc...) . My place is good for couples, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets).

The space
Big bungalow of 200m2 on 2000m2 land. The house has recently been completely redecorated. It includes 5 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets. The massive living-room includes a big open-fire and the kitchen is independent. There is a big billard table for the guests to use (no children please), a table tennis in the garage and a petanque court in the garden.

There are 2 terraces with outside tables for 10 people each. The garage can host 4/5 cars.

This house is on the high end of Amberieu en Bugey (at 300m altitude) and benefits from the most amazing views of the nearby mountains.

Amberieu en Bugey is a middle size town with all the infrastructures needed such as several supermarkets, many shops, doctor surgeries, hospital. The local pool is called Laure Manaudou (gold medal olympic swimmer from the area) and it offers some space for serious swimmers, fun games for children, a toddlers’ pool, an open field to laze around and a very good spa section.

The House is also situated only 1 mile (2 min by car and 15min walk) from a tree top adventure trail park called Branche Evasion and it offers more than 150 activities to do in the forest (equipment provided) including a laser game that I would recommend.

You can start hiking from the house or mountain biking or just follow the road and race biking along the same roads (nearby) that the tour de France take every year (very hilly).

At the top of the mountain (15 min by car or 1h30 walking) there is a famous castle called Le Chateau des Allymes which is a historic monument with 7 centuries of history. The Castle was originally built there to provide an overview of all the surrounding areas.

Our house is also situated only 30 min from a ski resort called Les Plans d’Hotonnes where most French kids from the area go on a Wednesday afternoon (no school!) to practice skiing. It also has a surfing area, and a great sledge area! If downhill skiing is not your thing, you have the option to go racket hiking or cross-country skiing. There is a very good biathlon space available as well.

You are 40 min by car or 25 min by train away from Lyon, the capital of the gastronomy where you are guaranteed to taste some of the most amazing French food specialities. A few famous French cooks such as Paul Bocuse or George Blanc organize day cooking seminars nearby. Lyon is also a rich city historically and culturally where you will find all year round something to do such as fairs, markets, music festivals/concerts, theatres etc…

Amberieu en Bugey is also not far from an area called Les Dombes (15min by car) where you can eat in most restaurants the speciality of the area which is actually frogs. I have some good addresses if you are interested. There is also a very traditional snail farm at around 30 min by car where you can follow the cycle of life of these mollusks and by the end of the visit you can have a little tasting as well.

15 km away from the house, there is a very interesting visit of some caves called Les Grottes de la Balme. These caves offer a magical journey between stalactites and stalagmites, underground lakes and draperies. You’ll also find one of the biggest population of bats.

But of course there are also some very interesting visits of the local wine caves with the Beaujolais, the Maconnais, the Bugey, the Cote Rotie nearby!!!

Within 30 minutes drive, FOSSIL hunters have found what is believed to be some of the largest ever dinosaur footprints in the Jura Mountains of eastern France. You can visit the site where the footprints are believed to be around 150 million years old, are about 1.5m wide and were made by a large herbivore weighing around 30 tonnes.

In summer, you have access to a canoe centre called L’esquimaude situated in Pont d’Ain (10 km from the house) where you can canoe down the river Ain (either 10km, 15 km or 25km) at your own pace. There are other aquatic centres which offer the opportunity to do Hydrospeed, rafting, canyoning etc.

Therefore, there are plethora of things to do and discover surrounding our house but of course your choice could just be to relax in a quiet environment and the house will offer just that!

Please do not hesitate to email me if you need any further information.
