It will be an anniversary you'll never forget when she's expecting islands in the Caribbean and you bring her to the coast of Maine.

We have PV panels and solar water heaters. Not to save the planet, but because Maine people are thrifty and using free solar power is basic common sense.

The humble Farmer Bed & Breakfast has been licensed with the State of Maine for several years. This is our first adventure with airbnb.

Check out our two bedrooms upstairs with a shared bath @ $80.

The space

This is a downstairs room with a private entrance and private shower. It has one double bed and a single bed. Windows on three sides look out on the apple orchard or 120 rhubarb plants. Most friends who visit do not spend time inside looking out the windows. When Marsha's father lived here, he pulled all the shades and watched TV. There are also two bedrooms upstairs that have shared bath @ $80.

Guest access

Guests breakfast in our dining room. Friends who come back every season sometimes cook their own meals. Some buy lobsters three miles down the road and we boil them up and all have supper together.

Interaction with guests

Once you have seen humble's solar radiant heated cellar and his 30 PV panels, all of which the old dubber installed himself (with a lot of help from knowledgeable friends), he is more interested in hearing you tell about what you do for a living. He assumes that you have at least a graduate degree or were born and brought up in some exotic place in the world. Like Framingham. humble is a linguist who has been known to give discounts to native speakers of Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, German, Spanish, Dutch, French or Italian who will speak to him only in their native language. But most Europeans would rather slash their wrists than speak anything but English with an American.

humble has made a weekly one-hour jazz/humor radio program for 38 years. Now it only runs in New York City, Rockland, Maine and iTunes. His Op-ed column runs in the Portland Press Herald. humble's TV show, which has the same music and commentary as his radio show, goes into about a million homes in the US and can be seen on YouTube.
humble and Marsha have a lot of friends.

Other things to note

Three or four days a week Marsha works in a lighthouse on Southern Island, located at the mouth of Tenants Harbor. She is, therefore, glad when you want your breakfast at 7 or 0730 so she can make it for you before she goes to work. She has no faith in her husband's ability to fry an egg --- with good reason, because he has never done it. For the past 40 or 50 years humble has had a pan of rolled oats for breakfast. A habit he acquired as an adult male living alone for 20 years.

Yes, she commutes to work by boat. Even humble, who worships his wife, would not try to get you to believe that she could walk out there.

Robert is quite a Renaissance man and we had many great conversations.

As Airbnb host, none are better than Robert & Marsha. They inspire and challenge us to live life to its fullest. Great place !

What a fantastic place! Sadly, we were only passing through for a night, because Robert and Marsha are marvelous company. We had a spacious downstairs room with private access, and breakfast was generously provided. Eggs, fruits, freshly-baked blueberry cake, toast, jams, juice, ample coffee - Marsha outdid herself. Conversations with her and Robert were the highlight of my stay. Charming and witty couple, highly recommend paying them a visit.

My traveling companion and I arrived well after sunset, but had no issues in finding the location due to the excellent directions that Robert, the humble farmer, had given us. We had a private entrance into our room just steps from our car, and found the room to be exceptionally spacious and comfortable including furnishings of a love seat and lounge chair. The delicious breakfasts that Marsha prepared were bounteous and we enjoyed delectable treats in that we were served homemade preserves and our most favorite, Maine blueberry pancakes! Their location was a good fit for us in that it was very central to the areas we wanted to visit between the Pemaquid Point peninsula and Belfast. At the end of the day, it was a wonderful feeling to go home to the Humble farmer's B&B. Deb Clausen

We had a great time staying with "the humble Farmer" and the "Almost Perfect Woman". The room we had was very comfortable and their were delicious blueberry muffins and coffee in the morning. The hosts were very accommodating of our tight schedule - we had to get up very early to get to the airport, and they had breakfast ready for us at the crack of dawn - and we had a great time chatting with them. We didn't have our own key, but humble waited up for us to get home from our lobster feast at a restaurant just down the road. The house is on a small farm down a quiet country road. If you are looking for a relaxing, unique getaway and interesting conversations with two engaging and witty people, stay here!

Response from Robert:
Kari lives in Chicago. So the raceway in front of our house looks like a quiet country road to her. 70 years ago I used to ride a bicycle on that quite country road but I wouldn't dare do it now. You're taking your life in your hands just walking across the road to rake blueberries. Alles ist relativ.
