Undoubtedly the best AirBnb we have ever stayed in! Pictures don't do justice to the incredible garden, with its vibrant colours, imaginative architecture, and the countless beautiful potted plants, and the house has gorgeous Mexican artwork and a great sun spot on the roof! Mario went above and beyond as a host, with his warm hospitality and fantastic advice on the local area. We felt so at home here, it has been the highlight of our trip to Mexico and we really cannot recommend Mario's place more highly.

After reading past reviews, I had high hopes for Mario's place. Those hopes were surpassed the minute I saw the beautiful casa and breath-taking gardens and landscape. I initially struggled between wanting to be close to town or having serenity. Serenity won, and this was 100% PERFECT! My husband, I and our 2 small dogs called this "home" for 3 weeks, and every day I discovered something new inside or in the surrounds. The caretaker keeps the grounds spotless and that has to be a huge job! Mario made sure the casa was stocked with coffee, kitchen supplies and an initial supply of drinking water upon our arrival. We also had a housekeeper come every week, and she did a great job. There is a nice park about a 15-minute walk from the casa where we worked out in the mornings, and several times a week we took the bus to town. San Felipe is a small, safe area about 20-30 minutes from the Zocalo. There are several good restaurants in San Felipe, but we especially enjoyed Restaurant Monica, an Indian restaurant owned and run by Dabi, a past chef in an award-winning Indian restaurant in London. Go there!! We went weekly! I can 110% recommend Mario's casa!

The place is about a 20 minutes drive away from the center of the city. The bus (7 pesos) is available right outside the door and will take you downtown. Light sleepers should bring earplugs as the neighbourhood dogs and donkeys tend to make some noise at night. There is a mobile bakery (baked goods sold out of the back of a car) in the area. Delicious mantequillas and galettas, we highly recommend it!

The other reviews are accurate. The architecture is wonderful and the garden is huge and insanely beautiful -- photos can't do it justice. The hosts are all super helpful and accommodating. It's about a 20 minute bus ride into town, but the bus is fun, cheap, and easy to catch. That distance is refreshing at the end of the day. We loved coming back to the garden.

Astounding, beautiful, remarkable -- just amazing! Those are the words we used over and over while staying at this location for three days. Nestled in the hills above Oaxaca, the multi-level apartment features copious windows featuring stunning views of the surrounding garden. The three of us -- two adults and a 12-year-old -- slept in comfort, enjoyed easy access to Oaxaca (10- minute drive to the center of town), and loved being out of the bustle of the city each night. We loved every minute!

There just aren't enough words to express how great our experience here was. Every aspect of our stay was amazing. Our first positive experience came when I messaged Roselia to ask her how she suggested we get to their place from the airport since we were coming in late at night. She responded that there was no need to worry about it - that because it was late, she and her husband Mario would be there to pick us up. Sure enough, when we landed in Oaxaca and exited the baggage claim of the airport, she and Mario were standing there holding a sign with my name on it. They drove us to the property, which has a small (but very comfortable) house on it. Mario and Roselia do not live on their garden property, as they have another house in Oaxaca, but this is like their vacation home and space. They have only recently begun to rent it out on AirBnB for others to enjoy! As previous reviews have stated, the garden grounds are truly incredible and photos don't do the space justice. It definitely feels like you are in a resort, as your "treehouse"-like abode is raised and surrounded by beautiful greenery and flowers. It is very peaceful and quiet, as it is around a 10-15 minute drive away from the city center. When we awoke after our first night, we brewed our coffee and went to explore the garden more. Mario was there, speaking to the full-time gardener and led us around for a tour of the grounds and giving us more details on how he is an architect and has built this whole space himself over the last 10 - 20 years. He is truly talented and so friendly in talking about his passion with visitors. We wanted to go into town that first full day and Mario offered to drive us again. When we had to make ourselves leave on our checkout morning (we did NOT want to!) we couldn't find a taxi driver who was available, so Mario and Roselia gave us yet another lift into town. Thus, overall, Mario and Roselia are amazingly nice people and hosts who went above and beyond. They treated us as if we WERE at a resort and we are so appreciative of everything they did. We told them they could be charging much more per night at this level of pure beauty and service. This was my friend and I's best AirBnb stay yet and we recommend everyone takes the time to visit. We can't wait to return some day!

This place is truly magical and worth the distance from the city. The apartment is lovely and clean and the garden is absolutely breathtaking. The owners are extremely sweet and helpful. It's about 15-20 minutes from the center of Oaxaca. If you don't have a car, you can take the bus or a taxi. Taxis are about 60 pesos each way. During the day you can usually catch one on the street, but to leave at night you need to call a cab (they come quickly). That said, this place might be difficult for you to stay at if you cannot speak Spanish. Most drivers can get you close, but you need to give instructions to get to the exact street.
