Fall in love with the traditional conversion of this ancient limestone barn. Renovated to an exceptionally high standard but keeping all the character and features of the original building. Lovingly restored with unique upcycled and re-used materials to delight your imagination.
For that romantic weekend the main bedroom with roll top bath is just perfect.

The space
The Co-op Barn offers you the perfect bolt hole for your holiday getaway. A unique blend of traditional style with all the home comforts for a cozy break. Special attention to detail by us means you don’t have to worry! We want you to have a great time here so have made an extra special effort to make everything perfect for you.

The Barn cottage garden has decking and seating positioned to enjoy the views across the valley and up into the hills and dales beyond. There is also a picnic table and chairs for alfresco dining surrounded by flower boarders, stone walls and fencing making the garden a safe place for dogs and children. We have also attached 2 x D rings for you to lock up your bikes at night down by the back door. So, whether it is sitting out in the early morning with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise across the valley or watching the sun go down after a lovely day out in the fells whatever the reason we hope you love it as much as we do.

Come on in and take a look…

Guest access
The whole barn is available for you to enjoy. There is plenty of space for a family of four for a break. The main bedroom upstairs is a beautiful room with double aspect windows with filed views. The luxury double ended bath is just what you need for a long relaxing soak. As a special romantic touch the bath is at one end of the bedroom! There is an en-suite loo and washbasin tucked away off the main bedroom.
The twin-bedded room is on the ground floor with en suite large shower, toilet, and basin. With two full sized single beds and has relatively easy access to suit less able guests who find stairs a challenge. Also, ideal for children, friends, and relatives.

Other things to note
The Barn is very special and everyone loves the unique character. You will see dustbin lids, potato baskets and ladders used as light fittings, old sacks, and picnic blankets for curtains. John made the kitchen from used pallets delivered to site during the renovations, Vanessa painted them to look like a garden potting shed. There are many more surprises, such as the double ended bath in the upstairs bedroom.

There is a full set of crockery, cutlery, and kitchen utensils to suit four guests plus plastic dishes and cups for one child. The kitchen has a full range of appliances; electric hob, full sized electric oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine.
Choose the Barn to enjoy home from home comforts blended with traditional style and exciting design. Enjoy your break and let your imagination go. You will get plenty of ideas to take home with you. Photos are free; help yourself!
Pets are welcome both in the barn and at The Olde Gate Inn is just a short stroll down the lane. It has open fires, great food, good beer, and a warm welcome.
Some practical stuff now: Whilst there is a good sized fridge in the kitchen it does not have a freezer compartment. The Barn has free dedicated wi-fi and the broadband service is good. There is a colour flat screen tv with a free sat service and a dvd together with a collection of dvd’s. There is also a radio, cd player with a phone connection. Dogs are welcome, there is a secure garden and loads of dog walks from the front door.

The Barn lies at the west end of the village of Brassington nestled in a small group of cottages possibly a hamlet of its own many years ago. Brassington was a limestone mining village hence the numerous quaint small cottages and barns scattered around the narrow lanes and byways across the village. Enjoy walking around the lanes and looking at the stone walls and cottage gardens mostly leading down to the 17th century Pub. The whole village was built on a south facing slope giving it sunshine the whole day through and protecting it from northerly weather up and over the hill behind it. There are lovely walks and bike trails up and over the surrounding hills just waiting to be explored

Welcome to Postcard Cottages, John and I (Vanessa) have taken (slightly) early retirement from our careers in Medical Sales and the Agricultural Supply Trade to live our dream by moving from Leicestershire to the beautiful hills and dales of Derbyshire. We started by coming on short holidays here over many years, just like you are thinking of doing and fell in love with the beautiful rolling green hillside, the limestone walls, numerous sheep, pretty villages and friendly folk. Watch out this area is addictive it could happen to you. We now have 2 properties, the first we opened in 2015 No3 Club Cottage at Biggin by Hartington is a charming old limestone shepherd end of terrace and it captured our hearts as soon as we saw the stunning rolling views front and back and the safe south facing enclosed gardens. The cottage wood burning stove in the cosy lounge, the spacious kitchen diner with upcycled and renovated furniture makes it a special place to visit and unwind. We then loved the enchanting enclosed wooden staircase and the 2 bedrooms and bathroom with their special views upstairs. We have ensured there is full range of modern facilities for your every comfort and need. We hope you like it as much as we do. January 2017 sees the opening of “The Old Co-op Barn” Brassington our second property. This has been renovated over 14 weeks during Autumn 2016. The Old Co-op barn is so called because it used to store agricultural items for the old co-op store in the village and has been called the old co-op barn ever since when. We have kept this theme and you will see dustbin lids, potato baskets and ladders used as light fittings, old sacks and picnic blankets for curtains. John even made the whole kitchen out of used pallets which were delivered to site during the renovations and I painted them to look like an old garden potting shed. There are many more surprises to be seen and used such as the double ended bath in the upstairs bedroom. Check it out on our gallery on the web page. Also, the whole renovation process has been filmed by Channel 4 TV for a new renovation show called Big House Little House to be shown from Feb 17 for 20 weeks 4pm on a Saturday. We hope you like it, it was good fun being filmed and there should be some funny moments, hopefully they will not be too rude about John and I. You can also see the progress of both properties on our social media page: postcardcottages Please like and share our page, post review and keep up to date with our news. You can also visit our web page: postcardcottages If we can help you with any questions please drop us a line. Hope to hear from you soon Regards Vanessa & John
