Sligo County's connection to the sea is omnipresent. Its surfing, especially around Mullaghmore, is world-renowned, and waves swell to 15m high in peak season in late winter and early spring.
More serene diversions in Sligo include pubs, live music and restaurants and businesses that have embraced a locally sourced ingredients.

If it is a leisurely or action packed holiday you require then you can be guaranteed that the counties of the North West of Ireland including Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo can provide for your every need. These counties offer you choices of the best accommodation and eateries along with lively evening hotspots to keep you entertained during your visit. The region has excellent sporting amenities with some of Ireland's best golf links courses, along with excellent fishing spots, horse riding, mountaineering, mountain biking, river and sea cruises, famous surfing beaches and much much more.

Visitors are also sure to experience a warm welcome or "céad mile fáilte" from those you meet on your travels in the area along with a strong sense of the Irish heritage and culture in some of the least explored parts of the country.

Ireland's North West is easily accessible from every corner of the world through the regional airports serving the region at Knock or Shannon and you'll find there is a lot to see and plenty to do once you arrive. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Renting (or "hiring") a car is by far the best way to discover the North west of Ireland (outside the cities) but it can be a more expensive option.

Use the following website for planning routes and gauging journey times. However, do take the quoted times with a "pinch of salt"; they're a bit optimistic and don't take the fact that you're unfamiliar with the road network, plus roadworks, traffic delays and diversions, cattle or sheep on the road (yes, really!) etc, into consideration.

Recommend you add a further 20% to the quoted journey times for a realistic figure:

Distances and Minimum Drive Times between Dublin and Popular Destinations (from (URL HIDDEN)

Dublin-Sligo: 200km; 2hrs 15min

Bear in mind that when driving through rural areas many roads are narrow, single lane that twist and wind through the landscape; you'll probably average 40km/hour.
