Looking for somewhere where you walk in an instantly feel at home? A small double room available in a beautiful cottage on the edge of Snowdonia and the Carneddau, perfect for walkers, climbers of professionals wanting to find a home from home.

The space

Looking for somewhere where you walk in an instantly feel at home? This could be the place for you. Room available in a beautiful cottage on the edge of Gerlan with a self employed professional and her walking enthusiast husband. The room is a double with views over the 'zip wire' quarry, to let to one person (but could take two for a few nights). Shared lounge, Dining room, lovely kitchen and bathroom, broadband, all of which you're welcome to use in a self catering setting. Nice terraced garden with views, potential for some outdoor storage and a sheltered 'drying' area for gear. If you're interested in walking, the village backs straight onto the Carneddau range and its front faces onto Snowdonia. So we're spoilt for choice when it comes to walking! A 10 minute walk (if that) into Bethesda brings a choice of pubs, shops and cafes. Would suit a someone with outdoor interests (walker, MIA or ML working in area), or someone with a temporary work contract in the area. Holiday makers are of course also welcome. Unfortunately no private parking, but there are a few spots within a two min walk. The bus stops outside and goes directly to Bangor regularly on weekdays, and runs late on Friday and Saturday nights.

Breakfast is included. If I'm here I'll make you something, if I'm at work when you get up then you're welcome to help yourself to breakfast things in the kitchen. I've been veggie for more than 20 years and regularly eat and cater for vegans and gluten free friends, whilst my husband eats the odd fry up. So between us we can cater for most diets!

We have a resident cat, Doris, who is very friendly but doesn't get in your way or space if you don't let her!

This summer we will only take bookings in june or july, and the odd short stay in august as we're preparing for a new arrival in september :) so grab the opportunity whilst you can!

Interaction with guests

My interaction with you will depend very much on my workload at the time. If I'm not at work and you want to hear more about the locality then I'm happy to assist and am a friendly and helpful host. Equally though, if you'd rather have your own space and for me to stay out of the way I can do that too! If I'm available I will make you brekkie, but if I'm not you can help yourself in the kitchen.

Our stayed at Liz and Steve was really nice. The cottage was lovely decorated and I absolutely adore their cat Doris :) as the description says the bus stops right outside their house which is very convenient but you should always check the bus timetable in advance as not many buses run often on Sundays or late at night. if you have a car, of course, you won't have such a problem and I'd say it's also the easiest way to get around. Liz was super helpful and responsive and provided us with all the information we needed.

Liz and Steve have a delightful and charming cottage in Bethesda, a short ride from Bangor. The bus stops right outside their front door! It was even more adorable than the Airbnb photos captured! I had a wonderful stay, a solid night's sleep. and loved my talks with Liz.

The perfect base for a couple of days walking in the Snowdonia area. The house is delightful, and Liz and Steve were very helpful with directions before hand, and would have been fantastic resources for information about the area if we only had longer. We also really appreciated Doris the cat- she was a real treat! Thanks

Liz and Steve are brilliant hosts, i've never felt so welcome in the presence of strangers before! This is my first Airbnb experience and I'm not sure I'll want to do it again as I'm worried they won't meet Liz and Steves brilliant standards! They left fresh towels for our arrival and left breakfast out each morning. Their house is lovely and we were welcomed at the door by Doris the cat who showed us around, she also showed us the garden where there are some amazing views! It's all very steep around the house, so if you didn't go for hiking - after your stay you'll feel like you did loads! And that's just getting to the car behind the house! Thanks Liz and Steve. Oh and Doris!

Staying with Liz & Steve in Gerlan was a wonderful introduction to Airbnb, and they were exceptionally welcoming hosts - even Doris the cat was very well behaved! The house was similar to the listing; small but very homey and really well set up. Around Gerlan/ Bethesda there are more than enough shops to be able to self cater and the house is just a stones throw from Anglesey and all that Snowdonia has to offer. Completely recommended, and fab value for money!

Liz was incredibly hospitable and certainly exceeded my expectations of a host. The room and home was clean and comfortable, and the kitty was very friendly :) I would definitely stay again!

Hi, I'm a self employed marine ecologist living in Snowdonia. It's a beautiful place to be, between the mountains and the sea. I obviously love the sea, and the environment, but I also passions for the outdoors, veggie food and travel. I don't get to travel as much as I used to, but have traveled to the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, Caribbean, Egypt, Morocco, Prague, Portugal, Spain and Italy to name a few. My recent interest is UK travel, with a bit of camping too. This year's travel was AirBnB to Tenerife for some walking, and two years ago a big trip to Scotland - bigger mountains and clearer sea than Wales but it is always nice to come home. My husband Steve used to be an assistant outdoor instructor in a local school, but is now a team member at a Snowdonia YHA and we share a keen interest in the outdoors and UK travel - in fact in 2013 he was the third person recorded to walk the entire perimeter of Wales. He is always keen to give tips about walking around the mountains or coast and share his experiences. Steve and I have a little boy and cat, so our own opportunity to travel is a bit more limited these days!

So if you are looking for a nice friendly base in Snowdonia then get in touch. :)

Look forward to meeting you, Liz & Steve.
