This quirky Highland Park guest house with private entrance is just 2 blocks from the heart of the street that Conde Nast calls "The Coolest Street in Los Angeles", yet it's nestled in a quiet and secluded backyard designed by a TV show, featuring an outdoor bar and chickens!
The most charming part about the space is the backyard, a quiet oasis with lots of little nooks for eating, drinking, reading, and relaxing. The guest house itself is a modest 400SF with a full bathroom and a galley kitchenette. The "bedroom" (it doesn't have a door) is small and cozy with a double bed. The main room has a pull out sofa (firm foam queen size). There are space heaters for the winter and a couple of fans and a portable AC unit for the summer.
GUEST ACCESS: Guests will have private access through the side of the house. Guests will also have full access to the backyard and outdoor bar and dining area which were designed and built by a TV show on the DIY network. We rarely use the backyard when we have an Airbnb guest, so it would pretty much be private space for you to enjoy. Just note that we do come back there to let the chickens out in the morning and put them away in the evening. Our gardener also comes every other Friday for about 20 minutes mid-day. Free parking can be found on the street, usually within a block of the house. There are no parking restrictions on our block.
Interaction with guests
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS: We live in the main house and it is highly likely that we will be around, but very busy. We are hosts at heart and would LOVE to tell you all about the neighborhood. But we also respect that some people would like to explore on their own and have some privacy. So please do not hesitate to ask for recommendations, otherwise we'll stay out of your hair. We do let the chickens out in the morning and put them away in the evening, so you might see us then. And if you are here for longer stays, we might spend a little time in the yard gardening.
Other things to note
FULL DISCLOSURE: This space is very unique and fun, but not for everyone. The chickens will occasionally make a little noise in the morning and the tree paved patio/walkway is very uneven and not great for roller bags, wheel chairs, or people with trouble walking (though toddlers often live it!)
No pets are allowed in the guest house or anywhere on the property. We like to keep the house free of pet dander so that our friends/guests with allergies will be most comfortable.
We ask that people respect our neighbors and keep the noise down after 11pm.
Please limit the total guests on the property at any time (including yourself) to 6 or fewer.
The washer and dryer are available for free to guests, up to 1 wash/dry per day of stay. Please let us know if you plan to use them so we can explain any other details that you might need to know.
Absolutely no smoking inside the house. If you smoke outside, be sure to dispose of the cigarette butts in the black outdoor trash container.
We are an easy-going couple in our 30s. We are major foodies who love to travel and most often do so while touring with our folk duo. Kevin teaches music at a local community college, while I (Sara) stay home with our 1-year-old daughter and manage the Airbnb rental.
We love meeting new people and sharing travel stories. When we travel, we love to see each city as it would be like to live there. When we host, we love to offer that sort of experience to others.
