Family-owned for generations, we have been providing a "Home Away From Home" holiday for guests visiting Belize for over 15 years! Come stay in our cozy cottages, nestled in the center of a 400-acre working farm, San Lorenzo.

The space

*This is one of two Air BnB listings we have. This listing is for a private room with two double beds; the other listing ("Farm Stay - Private Bunk Bed Room") is for a private room with two large beds that can sleep up to 4 adults if 2 people share a bed. Both have private bathrooms.

**Please note that I (Suzi) manage the online bookings for Airbnb, but your actual host will be Santiago Juan, the owner and operator of the cottages.

There are 10 unique and comfortable cottages on the property; each cottage can accommodate single travelers or groups of up to 4 adults. There is also a large dining area and veranda, as well as an enclosed indoor studio and large yard spaces. The property surrounding the cottages is a working farm with domestic cattle and horses, as well as beautiful wild birds and a host of organic fruits and vegetables.

Guest access

We have a kitchen on-site, but it is restricted to staff access only, and guests cannot use the kitchen. On the plus side, we do offer optional meals and activities, both of which can be paid for as you go in cash or credit. Please let us know in advance if you would be interested in any of these. Price for breakfast is $5 USD per person and $10 USD per person for dinner.

Laundry services are available on-site for an added fee of $5 USD per load.

Nabitunich offers spectacular views of Xunantunich from afar, as well as easy access to rolling pastures, nature hikes, the Mopan river, and the nearby towns of Benque Viejo and San Ignacio. In addition to horseback riding, Hanna Stables offers a wide array of outdoor activities that will thrill nature lovers of all ages. Activities are arranged to suit your preferences and itinerary, ranging from horse riding, swimming, birding or taking a leisurely walk on one of our nature trails. Exotic gardens surround the cottages of Nabitunich, which provide the perfect setting to witness a spectacular sunset behind Xunantunich.

Please contact us to find out about booking tours, on-site meals, and transportation.

Interaction with guests

The owner, Santiago Juan, is often busy throughout the day working on the farm or leading horseback riding tours, but he will join guests for a meal. Visitors are also welcome to book a horseback riding tour with Santiago (highly recommended!) to ride around the San Lorenzo Farm, or take an exotic ride to the famous Xunantunich Mayan ruins.

Other things to note

Please note that we are located in a semi-remote area, 5 miles away from downtown San Ignacio. The best and most accurate way to reach our property is by catching a taxi in San Ignacio and asking the driver to take you to "Hanna Stables" or "Nabitunich." Please do not attempt to walk, as it is very long with few walking paths and involves unpaved roads.

From Belize City, we are a 90-minute drive away. We can be reached either by Tropic Air flights (fly into the San Ignacio airport), public bus (about $20 USD per person for a 3 hour trip), or private taxi driver ($100 USD one-way for a 90 minute trip). Please let us know if you would like a private driver as we can reserve one for you.

Where to begin? We had such an amazing time at this place. The hosts, Terri and Santiago were amazing. The scenery is beautiful. The food is wonderful. The horseback ride to the Mayan ruins was awesome. I cannot recommend this place enough. I told Santiago I would leave an honest review, so I must mention that there is no AC in the cottages and it can get hot. Also, there was some miscommunication between Suzi, the hosts and myself...but we got it worked out. Santiago was really invested in making sure we had a good time and that we got to do all we wanted to do. His knowledge of the area and its history made for many good conversations. Kicking back on the patio and talking with him about any and everything, late into the night, was one of the highlights of the trip. While you're there, I recommend the ATM cave swimming tour. I'm so glad I decided to book this place and the pictures and memories are some of the best I've ever had while traveling.

DON'T READ THE REVIEW, JUST BOOK! A perfect place to stay if you are looking for adventure, fun and excitement! Hanna Stables (Nabitunich) is located in San Jose Succintz. The farm itself is located in the hillside with other stables and resorts. The scenery is filled with farmland and trees. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Terry, who was very helpful and excited for us to be here. She made sure she could anything and everything to make sure we were happy. She checked us in quickly and gave us a tour of the room. The rooms are small, clean and simple. Although it does get very hot, fans were provided for us. We arrived during the hottest time of the year (June) with 100% humidity. We camp often so it didn't bother us to much, but for others, we can see it being an issue. The howler monkeys will yell at night, but they are not next to the farm. No howler monkeys will approach you while you are on the property. It is relatively safe in the room. There is a trail that leads from the farm to the river. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the farm to the river. The water is clear and clean. While we were resting by the river, a herd of cows and horses walked down to the river to drink water. It was breathtaking to see the animals join us for a break by themselves! The animals rest in the shade of the trees. They are harmless, but we did not approach or touch them. Excellent meals are provided around the clock. Papaya was cut for us at every meal. The fruits were amazingly fresh because they were grown on the farm. Lemonade and cold water was provided for every meal. Supposedly, the juice is made depending on what fruit would be harvested. Breakfast was our favorite meal. The cooks made fresh tortillas, refried beans, eggs and ham. I would kiss the cook and bring her home with me if she made me breakfast everyday. We picked a day tour with a horse ride to and from Xunantunich. I highly recommend this option because of the wonderful experience we had. Our tour guide, William, spoke English fluently and had intimate knowledge of the ruins. He was patient with us first time riders and guided us safely to our destination. The horses are gentle and well-trained. Santiago was an amazing host. By far the best host we have ever met. We spent much of our stay simply talking to Santiago about everything! Hours spent in the common area talking about politics, off-roading, traveling, health care, and much more. Anything you need outside of the Airbnb the staff will do their best to help. Santiago is well known and if you get lost you can just tell the taxi drivers in San Ignacio to take you to Santiago's place. Some of the older drivers still know Hanna Stables as Nabitunich,...

Absolutely loved our stay. Everything I could have hoped for and more. Santiago and Terri and everyone there were fantastic. Wish I could have stayed longer, if only for our fascinating even chats.

This Organic Farm is an amazing place to get away from it all. I loved how we all ate together and got to know the other guests that were also staying in other cottages. Terrie and Santagio are amazing people and are so fun to get to know... we can't wait to come back!

The cottages on Santiago's farm (Nabitunich/Hanna Stables) was such a wonderful place to enjoy the natural beauty and hospitality of mainland Belize. You will experience the lush landscape of the country living in a cottage on the farm. Definitely do a horseback ride. Have at least a few meals there; their food is local, flavorful and wonderfully filling without being too heavy. We did an amazing local ruin horseback ride with William, a hilarious and attentive guide. If we had had more time, we would have done another one! Santiago is a deeply interesting and intellectual person, sure to delight and engage you with fascinating conversation. Seek an opportunity to chat with him when you can! Note that this is a peaceful farm living experience unlike others you may find in Belize. Enjoy the fantastic property and all it has to offer!

Such a wonderful place! Loved sipping coffee while watching the sun come up over Mayan ruins in the distance. Santiago and his crew are welcoming and provide a lot of history and science of the region, so be sure to ask them. Meals were also super affordable and tasty.

*Note: I am a Seattle-based individual currently managing booking and marketing for Nabitunich, Hanna Stables, and Nefry's Retreat in Belize, which is why my profile is associated with this vacation listing. The host of Nabitunich is Santiago Juan, whose family has owned and run Nabitunich for over 15 years.

I am an avid traveler and writer/photographer currently based in Seattle, Washington. My travels have taken me all around the United States and beyond, with AirBnB serving as great resources for finding accommodations and local hosts in cities I visit. As a guest, I am very clean and respectful of the homes I inhabit and the residents who live there. I'm up for grabbing dinner and hanging out with hosts, or leaving them to their privacy if they please. If you'd like to know more, shoot me a message! I can't wait to meet you!
