Stay in the heart of Edinburgh in this 2-bed basement apartment. Situated in a historic location within a converted Old School, the apartment gives you a real taste of the Old Town with easy access to all the capital’s modern and historic attractions. Most of Edinburgh’s big attractions, shops, offices, bars and restaurants are right on your doorstep.

The space

The word ‘boys’ might be ornately carved above the front door, but don’t worry, these days the Old Schoolhouse welcomes boys and girls, men and women, whether they’re visiting Edinburgh to see the sights, do some business or take in the Edinburgh Festival, Hogmany or another of the city’s many all year round events.

With the apartment perfectly placed to make it quick and easy to enjoy all the best that Scotland’s capital has to offer, the space is designed to give you a place to kick back and relax after a busy day enjoying yourself (or working!). Somewhere to rest your head in homely comfort and style. Room to maybe rustle up a snack or enjoy a home-cooked meal. With a bathroom featuring a walk-in shower in which to get yourselves freshened up, ready to explore some more. After all, you’ve not come all this way to stay indoors all day.

During the time you do spend in the apartment, you’ll discover a place that effortlessly manages to be both modern and Old School (see what we did there?) The modern fitted kitchen features all the appliances you’ll need, including an electric cooker, microwave, fridge and washing machine, so you can keep hungry bellies full, and all your clothes clean. There is also a dining table with four chairs, great for eating, working, or doing both at the same time.

The lounge features a sofa that doubles as a third bed should you need it, plus a widescreen smart TV that’s hooked up to a DVD player and gives you access to Netflix. (Yes, we know there are some things you just can’t live without, including Wi-Fi which is free.)

Please note that the apartment is situated in the basement of the Old Schoolhouse, down three flights of stairs. Even though there is an elevator in the building, this also is only accessible via stairs.

If you’re travelling by car, please let us know in advance because we may be able to reserve the parking space at the back of the house for you. This space is shared with another apartment owned by the hosts and is offered on a first come, first served basis. There is a fee for the use of this space of £10 per day, well worth it when you consider how difficult it is to find parking in this part of central Edinburgh. Please note there's is a lift that can take you to the apartment from the car park. We however, do not own the lift or maintain it therefore accept no responsibility if it is not working.

I initially made an error whilst booking and Paula very kindly reimbursed the amount and we stayed at the flat for one night. The location is excellent, lots of good restaurants closeby. The flat is good for a small family but if you have luggage then you may want to know about the three flights of stairs that lead down to the apartment. Good value for money overall.

Please avoid the host as host will try to claim money for items that were already damaged as her property is really old and would blame everything on you. I would suggest to take photos of property as soon as you check in and make note as most of the things don't work or damaged. Has really bad experience with my stay as washer was not working, lift was out order and response from host so late and most of the things you report to her will be blames on you that it was working before but got damaged on your stay. I would recommend to just stay away and go for other hosts who value their guest. Paid so much money for this trouble.

I'm sorry you & your family didn't enjoy your stay Suhel. You are quite right to suggest the building is old as the apartment is within a 19th Century school. The conversion is approx 10 years old so the interior is still relatively new. I had been in the apartment the day of your arrival so know for sure the sink wasn't blocked as I washed up some dishes, the door was certainly not hanging of its hinges and the window was definitely not hanging out the frame. I can only apologise about the washing machine. We did get an engineer out as soon as we could it was unfortunate that he didn't have the part to repair it there & then. We did offer information on laundrettes that were close by so you wouldn't have to buy the children new clothes as you suggested! We don't accept any responsibility for the lift unfortunately and do state that in our description. The lift in neither owned or maintained by us. Again I can only apologies for the bad experience you had while staying with us.... it resulted in a costly one for us too.

Paula has been very friendly and helpful all the process through, since our arrival until our departure. The place is nice and very central, which is perfect for those looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Edinburgh. Highly recommended.
