The room where I stayed in Samey's place was pretty much as pictured in the photos. Nice and quiet with space to relax and work. Samey was very easy to contact and very helpful in all ways. I didn't realise in advance that there were so many people staying in different rooms in the house - so it was a little less personal than I had hoped and that made me a little more hesitant to use the public areas. But, all in all, it was an excellent place to stay for 3 nights after flying in from Europe and a great place to rest up and recover from some jet lag

We don't normally leave reviews like this, but this was the most negative experience we have ever had with an Airbnb. By the time we arrived for check-in, Samey hadn’t responded to us in 24 hours about how to enter our room, but his strict cancellation stopped us from seeking other options. The house manual said the front door and bedroom door should be unlocked. We entered the house, but the room was locked. Samey still never responded to our texts and calls. We were stranded with our luggage, wandering and itinerant, for 8+ hours while trying to come up with another solution. We later discovered from another man in the house, who told us Samey had simply “left for the weekend.” The next morning, we simply found a refunded amount the next day and saw that our host had ‘cancelled’ our reservation, AFTER our scheduled stay. Airbnb refunded us after hours spent explaining our situation, but the solution didn’t hold the host accountable. Samey was able to simply cancel our reservation with impunity AFTER a full 48 hours of radio silence, during which we were unable to cancel or rebook for fear of charges. Days after we had left Monsey, Samey finally responded: with a text insisting his door was unlocked. As for Samey’s home—a whopping $95 total with cleaning fees—it is essentially a worse version of a hostel: it is an old, sagging house with a pungent odor, sparse, worn furniture, zero personal contact with the host, a shared bathroom, and no guarantee that a room will be available. Our last-minute hotel at a comparable price, had ample rooms, clean furniture, our own clean bathroom, and free breakfast. At the rate he charges for a hostel-like stay in an old, isolated house, guests would be best to find a motel instead. We feel that leaving this review is the only way to hold Samey to account and to alert other travelers of this behavior. We’re satisfied with how Airbnb handled our situation in the end. However, its experiences like these with Samey (part of this broader ‘expensive hostel’ trend with Airbnb) that has made us ask questions about whether Airbnbs are always worth it—especially since when we began staying with Airbnb 5+ years ago, we had unique experiences at beautiful accommodations at rates generally lower than a hotel.

Samey was very easy to communicate with. It was quick to book the space. The place was exactly what I expected. It was a moderately sized room in a big house where other renters stay. The location of this room was convenient for the bathroom and kitchen. Be aware that the kitchen is kosher, as someone who doesn't cook kosher, it was difficult keeping up with that but I tried my best. Other than that, me and my friends had an awesome time. We stayed for a weekend so we could bond and go hiking in Harriman State Park. It's about the people you're with, more than the space you're in! :)

Samey is a very nice host, who immediately makes you feel welcome and even gave me a bar of self-made soap. He replies very quickly to messages. He lives with many roommates, so now and then there was some noise and the public areas are not all that clean. However, the room itself is fine and you have access to a big TV. Since I was visiting the area by public transportation we had to walk quite far to reach the house, as well as for a supermarket/dinner. Nevertheless, if you are fine with the hike and living in a more 'student' atmosphere, I can recommend Samey's place!

Samey was very nice and helpful. I did not realize that the house had so many rooms with so many people staying there. That felt more impersonal than my previous experiences with Airbnb places to stay. The location was perfect for us and it was a fair value for what it was, a 3 star accommodation.
