A circa 1950s rustic cabin that retains the flavor of decades gone by with an artsy twist. It is a place to relax, enjoy the beauty of the woods, lake and gardens, and take in the activities that the area has to offer - from paddling, bike and hiking trails to local art centers and farmers market. Artists, creative spirits, those looking for a place to slow down, connect with nature, who want simple accommodations and grounds with an enchanting feel, will enjoy Deerwood Cottage.

The space

This rustic cabin is furnished with vintage and eclectic furnishings with original art. It was built in the early fifties. You will have the flavor of a bygone era. The bedrooms have curtains as doors which open into the small living room/dining area. The bathroom has a vintage claw foot bath tub. The kitchen is furnished with microwave, gas range, refrigerator, and basic cooking equipment. There is no AC and no insulation. A charming Jotul gas stove will take away any morning chill and there are electric fans for the heat of the day, when most everyone is outdoors or sitting on the screen porch or dock (where everyone seems to enjoy their morning coffee). WIFI access. Because this cabin is for seasonal use, our space is available for booking from May through September only.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to swim, fish off the pier, use the fire pit lakeside, and use their kayaks or canoes in beautiful pristine Meta Lake. Pier is shared with us. Arrangements can be made in advance to have art studio access or to take a class for an additional charge.

Interaction with guests

We will respect your privacy. We live on premises in our own home so are happy to help you to enjoy your stay, share tips on our favorite places to go, and help you to access whatever you need.

Other things to note

The property has a wood shop, a boathouse, an artist's studio, and our home, along with the rustic cabin. Because this is a seasonal rental, the cabin is available from May through September only.

Deerwood Cottage is a gem and Debbie and Greg are wonderful hosts! They took the time to make me feel comfortable, but are not intrusive. The attention to detail in the way they decorated the cottage makes it feel like a home and they keep it so clean!!! I am so looking forward to going back!

It is very quaint, 1950's style.; small, but comfortable. Very relaxing. We went to relax, fish, read, catch up on our sleep; it was perfect. The fishing was good. The lake is algae free, unlike the lakes in Madison. Nice selection of restaurants. We ate at the Riverstone, and the food was very good..Debbie and Greg are wonderful hosts. We hope to go bak next year in the fall.
