Only 10 minutes and a world away from downtown Hayward, The SUNROOM SUITE is part of Loon Lake Guesthouse. With a view of Loon Lake Island, the rooms are stylishly appointed including a mini kitchenette. Enjoy your morning coffee in a sitting area bathed in light through windows and skylights and then venture out to the backyard gardens for a swim, paddle or lakeside campfire before relaxing in the soaking tub of the spa-like bathroom. Ideal for exploring, day tripping and working remotely.

The space
Main BEDROOM has beautiful views with plants and rich woodwork — a perfect haven for rest and relaxation. Restore yourself with sun+moonlight coming from all directions and views of the lake and island. In warmer seasons, it’s all gardens, birds and water while Fall brings a magnificent full technicolor panorama mirrored onto the lake. And when the temps go down, it’s a cozy retreat, especially when there’s a beautiful blanket of snow to set off the tall pines which surround the guesthouse.

The KITCHENETTE includes a microwave, coffee maker, small fridge, dishes, silverware, glasses and mugs. Coffee and tea are to be supplied by guests. If you need to have dishes replenished or anything else, please feel free to ask.

OVERFLOW BEDROOM increases occupancy from 2 to 4 guests. NOTE: Use of this bedroom makes the main bedroom considerably less private. Although separate from the upstairs guest suite, it borders on the host's apartment, separated by a locked door but still within hearing distance. Given that, unless sound privacy is an important consideration, it's hasn't been an issue thus far.

The BATHROOM is spa-like and spacious with a luxuriously deep 2-person soaking tub. Be sure to bring your bubble bath :)

Guest access
The Sunroom and Upstairs Suites share a guest entrance. Guest are asked to let others pass through this space before entering in the unlikely event there are others nearby. The green sliding louvered door the separates the 2 units and is usually remains closed unless the weather is below zero. I also use this room nominally to adjust the thermostat and lights if necessary.

2ND OVERFLOW BEDROOM is available by prior arrangement with host. NOTE: Booking this bedroom may present a privacy issue. It's separate from adjoining units but there is no door and the bedrooms are within hearing distance of each other and the host's quarters.

When the weather is warm, head down to the lake and gazebo for a swim or feel free to go out in the canoe. Although Loon Lake qualifies more as a swimming hole than a weed-free sandy beach, the water is spring fed and beautiful. Many guests love swimming here. Otherwise, one of the nicest public beaches in the Hayward area is within 1/2 mile. Beaver Lake Town Beach has a sandy beach, boat launch, picnic area and playground.

Guests are welcome to use the campfire ring down by the Gazebo. There is also access to a charcoal grill. Please ask beforehand to be sure there are no burning restrictions and so I can give you direction. Firewood and charcoal are not provided but there’s an excellent place 5 minutes away that sells campfire wood. Message me for details if you’re interested.

Any time you encounter others during your stay, please observe social distancing of at least 6’.

Other things to note
It’s important to note that Loon Lake is near an active railroad line. Guests frequently mention this adds to the ambience of staying here but if you aren’t one who appreciates the sound of the lonesome whistle blowing, this probably isn’t the best lodging choice.

This bedroom was designed with the idea that it’s great to wake up with the sun. For those who need a greater level of darkness in order to sleep well, I would suggest booking the Upstairs Suite or using a sleeping mask.

A light tidying up is all that’s required at check-out. NOTE: If you’d like to extend your stay beyond 11 am please make that arrangement in advance by text. You're also welcome to inquire about adding additional days. If the dates are open they may be available at a discounted rate.

The Namekagon (nam ah cog in) River, designated a National Scenic Wild River by the U.S. Park Service, is truly a local treasure and less that a mile away. It’s known for trout, canoeing, tubing and kayaking in the warmer months. In winter try to make your way to a canoe landing and witness how breathtakingly beautiful it is when surrounded by snow and ice.

In addition to Loon Lake, where guests are welcome to use the canoe or swim (a bit weedy for some), Beaver Lake Town Beach is 1/2 a mile away with a great sandy, family friendly swimming beach.

There’s also a couple of beautiful walking loops right out the driveway. One is about 45 minutes and the other about 25 minutes from the house. Text me for details.

Loon Lake is 15 minutes from Hatchery Park and 25 minutes from the 'Hwy OO' trailhead of the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski and hiking trails.

The TONY WISE MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER is located in downtown Hayward. It honors my father who — in addition to many other remarkable achievements — is the founder of the America Birkebeiner, the larges ski race in North America. It cleverly charts the extraordinary 45+ year history of this iconic, world-renowned, cross country ski marathon using state-of-the-art, hands-on exhibits including a 3D model of the trail, electronic race scrapbook, artifacts, photos, memorabilia and more. A must see for anyone who appreciates Nordic skiing and Hayward’s colorful history.

The area surrounding Hayward's historic Main Street has many shops, galleries, a winery, post office, outdoor sporting shops, bakery and restaurants. A fun stop to while away an hour or an afternoon. In Covid times dining-in is highly discouraged since many locations are not in control of mask wearing.

RESTAURANTS
For your health and the health of others who are staying here, please read the Covid Requirements in your booking settings that relate to coming and going during the pandemic. Dining-in at restaurants is highly discouraged when staying at Loon Lake Guesthouse. For more about that look under >Booking Settings >House Rules >Additional Rules. Takeout is available at many of these restaurants but calling ahead is important to verify hours. Call early to minimize indoor wait times and to ensure someone answers. Some places don't take calls during peak dining hours.

I'm a lifelong resident of Hayward who loves playing around in the kitchen and gardens. My father, the late Tony Wise, is famous for having started the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race and the Lumberjack World Championships. So with deep roots and an abiding love of the northwoods, I thoroughly enjoy hosting and sharing my backyard with guests.
