We have just spent 5 nights at Susana's beautiful windmill and have had a very enjoyable stay. Susana is a very caring and thoughtful host and her recommendations and tips made for a memorable visit to this part of Portugal. The windmill has some lovely features - we loved the large bedroom and the views, the kitchen is large and we appreciated having a washing machine as this was nearing the end of a tour of Portugal and Spain and we needed to do some laundry! The garden and patio are well designed with interesting planting and sitting areas. The weather in September was cool in the mornings but the sun came out by lunchtime and was hot most afternoons. This area of coastline does have sea mists but a kilometre inland the sky is blue and the sun is shining. Take sweaters at any time of the year - you will need them at some time of the day. The windmill is always cosy and there is heating if required. The supermarket in the village is wonderfully stocked and is open every day and there are a couple of good restaurants within short walking distance. The market on the main road into Colares is held on Saturday and Sunday's all day, is a ten minute walk and worth visiting if you are there at a weekend. Thank you Susana for such an enjoyable stay.

This was the first holiday in Portugal for my wife and I and we couldn't have chosen a better rental. The windmill has loads of character and unique features and was obviously built (and is maintained) with love. We found the windmill to be equipped with everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. Its position on the edge of Almocageme means it's only a short walk to a couple of good restaurants and the local supermarket and butcher. The road in front of the windmill can be quite busy during the day, but evenings/night are fine. The elevated position of the windmill means that there are wonderful views over surrounding countryside and down to the sea. The sea breezes we had meant that temperatures were always pleasant. Susana is a wonderful host; a mine of information and her offer of assistance should we need it was much appreciated. Her local knowledge is invaluable. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the windmill to friends and would certainly look to stay here again, if we revisit the area.

The windmill is a short walk from the centre of Alcocageme which is a great village with all you need- a good little supermarket, a butcher, fresh fish on Thursday in the market and a number of good restaurants. It is very well situated for exploring the coast and Sintra attractions. We walked down to the local beach - Praia D'Agrada in 30 mins. It was rated one of Europe's top beaches a few years ago. The only thing to be aware of is that the windmill is next to a road which is quite busy in the day, but not at night.

Great place to stay full of little intricacies! Walking distance to the beach and very traditional Portuguese restaurants. Lots of restaurants are closed on Monday's however great little pizza van walking distance which bakes handmade pizzas. Would highly recommend to everyone!!

Susana is the perfect host. Friendly and a great communicator! You will find yourself transported back in time to a village that has a healthy community feel with a friendly, self sufficient family life. There is always a cheerful greeting whether you are in the beautifully stocked supermarket, one of the cafes or bars or waiting at the bus stop. You may only be visiting but you quickly feel part of somewhere special. Susana's windmill is a fairytale space in a great location. Although just off the main road there is minimal noise and the stone walls keep everywhere and you cool. Be prepared for the weather to be varied. It will be sunny in Cascais and Lisbon but the mist lingers in Almocageme. There is often a cooling breeze that blows the clouds away for the sun to shine. The windmill was built out of love and is cared for with the same love. Spotlessly clean it is a great place for two or 3 people. The transport system is great so no need for a car as there are buses or trains to anywhere and if you buy a multiple trip ticket it is a very cheap way to get around. The nearby restaurants are fab-must visit Sisudo and Adega Vadia as well as the best beach I have ever been to Praia Adraga-20 minute walk, remember up hill on way back!! The fish restaurant is also excellent although noticably and deservedly more expensive than the village, but still much cheaper than home! You will have a wonderful time. thank you Susana xx
