This property is located over a working stable that is occasionally used by the Mounted Unit of An Garda Siochana. It is quiet spacious; and the big surprise is the peace and quiet even though it's in the heart of Dublin city.

The space

The mews building at the rear of No.63 Merrion Square is an integral part of one of the most significant survivals of an 18th century Dublin townhouse - comprising main house with garden, mews and stables with its own small garden - within the classic Fitzwilliam/Merrion Square area of Dublin. Situated on Fizwilliam Lane the Mews is a quaint and charming property.

Built in 1792/93 the house retains much of its historic character and fabric. The garden is one of the few surviving gardens in Merrion Square and most certainly the only remaining garden retaining a 19th century design and layout. The Mews also has a private garden, coach yard coach house and stables.

The stables have been conserved, and given a new life as a place to rest and water the horses of the Mounted Unit of An Garda Siochana while they are on duty in the city centre.

Other things to note

Our buildings were made to the standards of earlier times – and sometimes without the intention that they should be lived in. Consequently you may encounter features that reflect their particular character but that deserve due care and attention, particularly by the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. Examples of these are steps worn with age, uneven surfaces, low ceilings and beams, unexpected drops or changes in level, and by modern standards low or absent lighting. In all cases we have sought to make a sensible compromise between due regard for safety and the careful retention of the fabric of each building, which makes it an interesting place to stay. We ask you to appreciate and use the building with this understanding, and recommend you read the information in the Guest Book in the property

Our stay at the mews was wonderful. The house is beautiful and had loads of character. The location is ideal for access to all Dublin has to offer. The house is ideal for 6 people staying and has everything you would need. Only downside is there is only one shower but that didn't affect our stay at all. I would recommend anyone to stay in this beautiful house, we will be looking to stay with the Irish landmark trust again. The host was very welcoming and was happy to tell us everything we needed to know about the place and where to visit in Dublin. Arranging the collection of the keys was smooth and they were even accommodating of our extra early arrival time. All in all we had a wonderful faultless stay in the mews and would definitely come back for another trip.

Aaron was friendly, helpful and efficient and very accommodating and we loved the property. This flat was a perfect refuge from a rather grim city. It is ideally located. Merrion Mews is, in fact, in quite the nicest part of Dublin. Go south of it and see the pretty Georgian area. The Merrion Mews flat was quite the best thing about the whole weekend and we did enjoy our stay there.

Merrion Mews was a fantastic home from home. A super location, within walking distance from all the major landmarks on a quiet lane in the centre of town. It was homely, spacious and full of charm. I would definitely stay here again. Beautiful little house.

We had a lovely stay at Merrion Mews with friends. Quirky flat in a really nice area of Dublin, close to all the main sights. Thanks very much!

We loved staying here - the house is in an amazing location, extremely central yet quiet. Its also full of charm and character. We'd recommend staying here if you are keen on a central location and happy with a more rustic experience. Our only issue was connecting to the wifi which once connected was very slow but in the end we found this a blessing - allowing us all to really relax. There is no TV but board games were provided and the kitchen and living room are both good sizes for sitting together.

Aaron was a great host, very helpful on the property and answering our questions about the area The 6 of us, all friends from 3 European cities had a wonderful reunion weekend. It was perfect, because the mews house was clean, comfortable, very well equipped and steeped in romantic history. We were within spitting distance of the city centre yet in a quiet cobbled street, seemingly a century away from the hustle and bustle of the city buzz. We were well placed to walk to fabulous atmospheric pubs, delicious friendly restaurants, verdant, colourful parks, markets and all that this vibrant city offers, as well as having a handy store around the corner, so we could stock up on provisions. It was perfect and we'll do it again! Thank you for this unique opportunity to experience a taste of Georgian Dublin which really whet our curiosity about your wonderful city and its people!!

We had a great time staying in Merrion Mews, it's got everything you need and full of character! The flat is in a good central location (it's an easy walk in to town), surrounded by nice bars and food shops. Flat was really clean and tidy, and Arron was really helpful throughout our stay.

Irish Landmark is a non-profit organisation that finds interesting and unusual properties that are in need of conservation, and we give them new life. Since 1992, we’ve been turning historic buildings into truly special self-catering holiday accommodation. Our properties range from lighthouses and schoolhouses, to castles and gate lodges.

As an educational charity, our primary aim is to conserve and sustain iconic buildings. That’s why Irish Landmark properties are living buildings, not museum settings. Irish Landmark always respects the history and architectural integrity of the structures we conserve, but we also ensure they have all the contemporary comforts you want in a holiday home.
