About this listing

Our architect designed woodland lodge provides modern, private and comfortable accommodation in a fabulous rural location. Within c30mins of Heathrow and Gatwick airports and 45mins from London, what's not to love?

The space

Situated on the banks of the River Mole this single story woodland retreat enjoys stunning views over the Surrey countryside. Entirely self- contained, the lodge was built in summer 2013 with modern convenience and easy access in mind. It is light and airy and affords high levels of privacy and comfort.
Just 5 minutes from M25/Jnc 10, it’s within 35 minutes of Heathrow and Gatwick airports, 20 minutes from Guildford and London is 45 minutes by train from Cobham & Stoke D’Abernon or Effingham Junction stations, making it an ideal bolt hole for business executives or those keen to explore the many attractions of the area. It’s also ideal for those attending weddings and events at the various popular venues in the locality, where the freedom to come and go as you please is helpful.

With step free access, the spacious accommodation sleeps up to four guests on a self-catering basis and comprises:

•Double bedroom with king size bed
•Bathroom with shower
•Open plan living room with double sofa bed
•Dining table for four people
•Kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, double hob and small wall mounted oven
•Large private decking area
•TV/DVD/radio/ipod speaker
•WiFi
•Ironing facilities
•Hair dryer

Towels and bed linen provided.

Guest access

The lodge is within our garden and guests are welcome to use the garden and enjoy the outdoor space and surrounding woodland although you do have your own private decking area with stunning views over the river and surrounding countryside. Cobham (1.5 miles) is a charming small town with a good variety of shops, supermarkets and businesses as well as pubs and restaurants. Grange Park Opera at West Horsley Place is 15 minutes away, RHS Wisley and several National Trust properties are close by, as are Brooklands Motor and Aviation museum, Hampton Court Palace, Chessington World of Adventures and Thorpe Park. For cyclists, it’s worth noting that we are on the Surrey Cycle Way and for walking/running, there are the 800 acres of Chatley Heath (with its semaphore tower) and Ockham Common on the doorstep.

Interaction with guests

My husband David and I have four boys (aged between 11 and 20) and a dog so our rural location, combined with our proximity to local amenities and transport links is ideal. We keep bees and chickens, grow veg and make a lot of jam - the fruits of these labours are available for our guests.
We can interfere as much or as little as you like. The lodge is booked on a self -catered basis and a generous welcome pack is provided for all bookings including kitchen basics and toiletries. Your welcome pack includes milk, eggs, bread, butter, ham, cheese, fruit juice, fresh fruit, biscuits, muesli, home-made jams and chutneys and all the day to day essentials such as teas, coffee, oil, salt & pepper, washing up liquid and cleaning products. Fresh flowers and a bottle of wine are also provided.

Two nights minimum stay, although regular and longer term bookings can be discussed with us.

Lovely quiet setting, on the banks of the Mole. Perfect for visiting local attractions. Rural, but plenty of amenities/ places to eat nearby.

My family loved staying here. They couldn't believe how beautiful the surroundings were and the lodge itself was great and had everything they needed.

While we were told the cottage was small we were tripping over our bags the whole time. Small is an understatement. While the cottage is very nicely designed and finished, the woods are infested with stinging nettles. Really only suitable for a couple or a small family away from London for a quick break and certainly not for a family like us on a two-week AirBnB tour with lots of bags.

Response from Alison:
I'm sorry that you were not enchanted with the lodge for your two night stay. With all bookings for more than two people I always make it quite clear what the accommodation comprises ( it is set out clearly on the site here too) and I had even encouraged you to book a local friend's barn conversion with more rooms. You were blessed with glorious summer sunshine for your stay and I'm so pleased the children enjoyed the trampoline. While I cannot deny that English woodlands do indeed have stinging nettles at this time of year, it is a shame that you were not able to appreciate the magic of our beautiful rural surroundings.

A lovely, well equipped lodge, in a peaceful, pretty location. Alison gave us directions prior to arrival and the accommodation was easy to find. The lodge has beautiful views across the garden and down to the river. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the evening. Alison had left food and wine for us and we particularly enjoyed the homemade preserves. We thoroughly enjoyed our short two night stay and will definitely be rebooking next year!

Response from Alison:
Thank you Sue. I'm so glad that you appreciated the comfort and the rural setting of the lodge. We would love to see you back next year!

This is a lovely little lodge in picturesque surroundings. Alison and her family are extremely friendly and accommodating. There were lots of lovely little touches (a stocked fridge/larder, info on the local area and so on), which made our stay even more enjoyable. Internet is a tad unpredictable, but the view of the countryside makes up for it :)

Response from Alison:
So glad your trip was a success Tish. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting you. The internet in this area can be a little temperamental but, as you say, there's plenty to love about the place to make up for it!

My boyfriend and I had a lovely relaxing stay in Alison's cabin. Great for a getaway for a few days and not a really long way for us to travel. The cabin had lovely views and was very quiet, which is surprising when you consider how close you are to the town and motorway. The cabin was very comfortable and the cupboards well stocked which was a nice touch :) Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Response from Alison:
Thanks for your comments, Elise. Pleased you had the quiet getaway you were looking for.

I'm a freelance writer/marketer and busy school mum. I can't live without laughing children, a smiling husband and the most beautiful dog in the world. Being surrounded by glorious woodland keeps me sane and I love welcoming family, friends and guests to our home. I love cooking and being outdoors (at the same time, even!) but my husband would like me to adopt a greater love of gardening!
