Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
This historic home houses the only museum to Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald in the world. The Fitzgeralds lived in the house from '31- '32, writing portions of their respective novels, "Save Me The Waltz" and "Tender Is The Night," during their time here.

After the Fitzgeralds moved, the home was subdivided into four apartments. The downstairs now houses the Fitzgerald Museum, and the upstairs is now two separate suites.

This is a historic home and the furnishings and bathrooms are period, not new.

The space
The Zelda Suite is a full apartment. There are two bedrooms, a queen master bedroom and a second with two twin beds. There is a large living room, dining room, kitchen and sunroom.

There is NO TV. There is WiFi.

The living room furniture was donated by a family who were childhood friends of Zelda's. The suite has a restored bathroom but remains as period accurate as possible to the 1920s - 1930s for a historical experience, however, period bathrooms are smaller than historic bathrooms.

Guest access
The museum is not accessible to guests outside of operating hours (Thursday - Sunday, 10 am to 3pm). Guests are free to come and go from their suite when the museum is closed. If you would like to see the museum on a day we are closed to the public, please message our house manager. She can often open the museum on the morning of check-out.

Please be considerate of other guests across the hall. This is not a shared space, but a completely separate apartment.

Please use the front entrance to access your suite. Each suite has a rear exit, but because the staircase is steep and has limited lighting at night, should be used as an emergency exit only.

Other things to note
The house is a historic home built in 1910 with the bathrooms added in 1930. The furniture in the living room belonged to Zelda's friends, and are older and lower than contemporary sofas/couches and chairs. The bathroom is similarly smaller than contemporary bathrooms, tubs and showers.

We are also currently in the process of documenting the original historic wallpaper in parts of the house for reproduction and restoration. There will be some small areas where the historic wallpaper will be exposed, particularly in the twin bedroom.

Please be mindful of the operating hours of the museum during your stay as to not disturb other guests.

Neighbourhood highlights

Historic Cloverdale is one of Montgomery's oldest and most unique neighborhoods. It is easily accessible to/from the interstate and only a mile from downtown. Within walking distance of the apartment are some of the city's premier local restaurants, bars, coffee shops, The Cloverdale Playhouse and an independent movie theater (The Capri). The neighborhood itself was designed with walkability in mind, so every few blocks, you'll find a small greenspace. Each home is unique in its design and craftsmanship and little has changed since it was founded in 1892. You'll find traces of the history marked by historic plaques peppered among the homes.
