A modern comfortable house rebuilt behind its original 1890 shopfront in the picturesque Tasmanian town of Franklin.
Franklin is a small village just 5 minutes drive from the rural buzz and amenity of Huonville, and 40 minutes drive from downtown Hobart.

Base Camp is a great spot for extended families or groups to base them selves when exploring the Huon Valley. Enjoy the water activities, nearby hikes, local produce market or catch a film at the historic Palais theatre, just a few doors down.

The space

The space is decked out in our love of all things vintage, mid-century and has a boatie-Danish-farmhouse feel (is that even a thing?).

The house is cosy with a heat pump in the lounceroom and bathroom and the main living space is open and warm.

You will be a short walk away from: the historic Palais Theatre, which hosts a Sunday produce market, regular music events and a monthly $5 classic film screening; 2 pubs; an organic grocer; cafes and restaurants, including fresh local seafood and the best pizza in the Huon Valley; antique and vintage stores; Frank's Cider Bar (with free live music on Sundays); barefoot bowls on a Friday night; and the Wooden Boat Centre.

You can also walk across the road to catch a cricket or Australian Rules Football game at the local club, or watch the rowers from the Huon Rowing Club (home of the Olympic “Oarsome Foursome”) train and compete.

The backyard is fenced and would accommodate a small dog.

We hope you love our Franklin weekender, and come to love the Huon Valley as we do.

Guest access

You will have access to the whole house and the triple-garage shed. There is also a thriving veggie patch that you are welcome to potter it or harvest.

Interaction with guests

We live in Hobart, but will be available on the phone if you run into any trouble!

Other things to note

The house is located on the main road, so there is some traffic noise during the day, though the house is fully insulated, along with double-glazed windows.

As a first time user and of course unsure of all of this, was thoroughly pleased with this. Value for money, great location so convenient to all the attractions and towns of the huon and south, gorgeous older style cottage with new fixtures (sadly the couch was too modern and not comfortable, which is needed after a long day exploring!), and all those extra little homely touches that make it just like a visit to the family shack, such as food in the cupboard/ fridge and family board games. Unfortunately the veggie garden needs some love but was great to have that and sheds! Mold in the shower, dust on one bench, build up of toast crumbs in the toaster, and the amount of water wasted when turning on the kitchen tap or trying to heat up the hot water were the only negatives for me but don't let that put you off, this is a lovely place and definitely not one that should be missed when staying in the area. One major thing I loved was the heater in the bathroom! Finally, some one in Tassie that actually understands that bathrooms get cold and it makes all the difference to have a heater! Makes showering a lot easier, super impressed by this! Communication was incredible and made the whole process so much smoother, was great to know there was some one always there to help for anything. Also loved how there was a little treat for me as I was there to celebrate my birthday (and a late celebration of my partners birthday) And having a games room, wow, nice little space to hang out and appreciate the wonderful building, that ceiling! Incredible! Over all though, definitely recommend it and to Molly, Andy and Oscar, please keep up the good work, looking forward to staying in this charming property again some time in the (near, hopefully) future.

Where do we even start? We made a rather last minute booking with Molly and Andy, they were so quick to respond, helpful and downright sweet- we had a pretty good feeling about our stay. We were not disappointed! We arrived in Franklin quite late but found the place with absolute ease and had no trouble at all getting in thanks to Molly's fantastic instructions. The house is BEAUTIFUL. We fell in love straight away- from the gorgeous garden to the spacious house itself to the stunningly curated vintage feel throughout. The fridge/pantry had all the basics needed for a comfortable stay, the bed was bliss to sleep in, the bathroom/shower was amazing and the house was nice and warm, perfect after a chilly walk along the river (which is right across the road). Molly and Andy left a cute map of franklin and made some great recommendations of things to check out- The Market at Franklin was great, The pizza shop... To. Die. For. The game room was fantastic! We chose a board game from the collection and played table tennis till our arms ached. We love this place. We will be back. Do yourself a favour and visit for a few days.

We enjoyed staying at Molly and Andy's place in Franklin. The decor is interesting and fun, with a cottage feel. The kitchen had everything we needed. Molly and Andy left a fridge full of goodies and plenty more in the pantry, including fresh coffee! The location was very convenient to Franklin - walking distance from the shops and across the road from the river. Communication with our hosts was excellent and check in was smooth. We appreciated the flexible checkin time, and the later noon checkout. Thank you Molly and Andy. Gail and Brian
