A modern comfortable house rebuilt behind its original 1890 shopfront in the picturesque Tasmanian town of Franklin.
Franklin is a small village just 5 minutes drive from the rural buzz and amenity of Huonville, and 40 minutes drive from downtown Hobart.
Base Camp is a great spot for extended families or groups to base them selves when exploring the Huon Valley. Enjoy the water activities, nearby hikes, local produce market or catch a film at the historic Palais theatre, just a few doors down.
The space is decked out in our love of all things vintage, mid-century and has a boatie-Danish-farmhouse feel (is that even a thing?).
The house is cosy with a heat pump in the lounceroom and bathroom and the main living space is open and warm.
You will be a short walk away from: the historic Palais Theatre, which hosts a Sunday produce market, regular music events and a monthly $5 classic film screening; 2 pubs; an organic grocer; cafes and restaurants, including fresh local seafood and the best pizza in the Huon Valley; antique and vintage stores; Frank's Cider Bar (with free live music on Sundays); barefoot bowls on a Friday night; and the Wooden Boat Centre.
You can also walk across the road to catch a cricket or Australian Rules Football game at the local club, or watch the rowers from the Huon Rowing Club (home of the Olympic “Oarsome Foursome”) train and compete.
The backyard is fenced and would accommodate a small dog.
We hope you love our Franklin weekender, and come to love the Huon Valley as we do.
You will have access to the whole house and the triple-garage shed. There is also a thriving veggie patch that you are welcome to potter it or harvest.
Interaction with guests
We live in Hobart, but will be available on the phone if you run into any trouble!
Other things to note
The house is located on the main road, so there is some traffic noise during the day, though the house is fully insulated, along with double-glazed windows.
