About this listing
Situated in a quiet village at the foot of the Mendip hills our 17th Century Farmhouse is surrounded by beautiful countryside and was featured on TV's "Escape to the country". Our family home is everything you would expect from an old farmhouse – exposed stone and beams, flagstone floors, open fires and wonky walls. A far cry from swanky hotel rooms our home is bursting with character. The property benefits from 7 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms which look out across the large garden and beyond.
The property is south facing and benefits from 7 large bedrooms and 4 bathrooms which are light and airy and look out across the large garden and beyond to the fantastic views over fields up to the 15th century village church. From the back of the property there are also magnificent views across agricultural fields to Crooks Peak – one of the highest points on the Mendip hills.
The property has been lovingly decorated in rustic, country farmhouse style to tie in with the property itself; there are plenty of exposed features throughout the property which give it a truly country farmhouse feel.
Upon entry to the house you step in to a warm and welcoming large open-plan farmhouse kitchen complete with AGA and exposed beams and stonework, perfect for warming up after a winter walk on the Mendips or along the beach. The kitchen also features a separate gas hob and double electric oven as well as the AGA, along with microwave and other kitchen essentials. There is a dining area with room to sit 6 people. (We do have a table topper and seating for up to 12 which can be arranged prior to arrival).
Because it’s our family home it has all the creature comforts you would expect for young children (we have a 3 and 5 year old who have as much character as the house!). Off of the kitchen is a large playroom full of toys and games to entertain the little ones, as well as a fantastic outdoor play area – with a tower, swings and slide, a 12ft trampoline, a 2 storey playhouse and sandpit all within an enclosed, bark filled area for their safety.
Also off of the kitchen there is a cosy snug room featuring original flagstone floor, wooden shutters and inglenook fireplace with working log burner. This is our snug TV room which we cosy down in on a winter’s night!
Further on the ground floor is a large lounge with an open fire place and leather sofas - perfect for lazy Sunday afternoons or evenings when the children have gone to bed.
Also on the ground floor there is a large pantry, utility with separate washing machine and tumble dryer and a downstairs toilet.
On the first floor the master bedroom features a superking bed, exposed floor boards and an en-suite bathroom with walk in shower. There is another large bedroom with a double bed and sofa bed if required, featuring wooden floor boards and a working fire place. There are three further bedrooms on the first floor (two doubles and one twin), along with 2 bathrooms – one with bath only and one with a shower and bath.
The second floor opens up to a beautiful bedroom in the eaves. There is a king size double with a further small twin bedroom room off of the master which is perfect for a baby or children. The bedrooms are packed with character with an exposed stone chimney breast and beautiful exposed beams framing the room. Also on the second floor is a further bathroom with a shower and bath. All bedrooms offer beautiful views across the fields where you can often see livestock grazing and if you’re lucky a few deer! We can offer a cot and / or a cot bed for the little ones if required.
Outside, the garden benefits from a large lawn area, perfect for kicking a ball around, a game of Frisbee or relaxing in the sun. Fruit trees enclose the garden and lavender bushes line the front of the house along with roses and clematis climbing the stone walls. To the side of the property is the children’s play area along with a large patio /deck area complete with extendable dining table which can seat up to 8 people. This area is the perfect sun trap for enjoying an al fresco lunch or tea. Being south facing both areas of the garden see the sun all day and keep the sun late into the evening on a summers night which makes it perfect for lunch and evening barbeques / dining. There is a charcoal barbeque to use as you wish.
We spend lots of our time in the garden so have lots of equipment available for you to enjoy. Ride on’s for the children, paddling pool, foldable tennis net, tennis rackets, cricket set, swingball – and an endless supply of balls! Across the driveway we also have a large vegetable plot and greenhouse which throughout the summer is well stocked with lovely summer vegetables which you are welcome to use.
There is free wifi throughout the property, and can be accessed even on the top floor via a signal booster.
Our house is easily accessible - we are situated less than 10 minutes from the Motorway Jn 22; 20 minutes to Bristol Airport, 35 minutes to the centre of Bristol. There is plenty of off-street parking on our driveway which can accommodate about 8-10 cars.
