The location of Vincenza's shepherds hut in the lea of Etna's crater surrounded by mixed deciduous coppiced trees is utterly wonderful. To access this magical space for meditation or wild walking does require a robust car/jeep as the access road is treacherously pot holed and the gradient severe in places. However for those not simply collapsing at the end of the day exhausted from trekking and exploring Etna's ring villages - the equipping of the hut could do with careful reconsideration in terms of comfort levels apart from those committed to walk until not caring about creature comforts - a comfortable secure chair to relax in, a mattress with some ability to welcome to sleep, a side light to read by when a storm settles in - as this height up Etna I'm sure is not unusual. The internal arrangements could be addressed quite simply by a trip down to Catania's Ikea - so I hope are undertaken soon to release this honey of a shepherds retreat into the magical Air bnb up Etna it deserves to be.

We were greeted by Orazzio, who very kindly picked us up from Catania for only 5 Euro and took us up to the hut. He was extremely charming and showed us the sights along the way and we stopped at his daughter's house to pick up fruit and also he helped us get some shopping from a nearby town. He could not have been more helpful or welcoming. The hut is very rustic but very charming. We hired bikes from Orazzio for 8euro for four days and these were a real plus as the walk to the nearby town of Milo was a good half hour but only ten minutes by bike. We loved our stay here and would recommend the hut to anyone fornd of the outdoor life.

We had a great time at this place. The plan was very simple spend the day at the sunny beach and rest in the evening in the house were the temperature will be very comfortable. And it worked out perfectly. The place is very quiet, surrounded be the forest, there are only one or two neighbors but you wont see or hear them at all. It is true that last 300m of the road is difficult, very steep and rough dirt road but we had Skoda Octavia so there was no problem for us. Thank you Orazio very much again!

The brother of Vincenza, Orazio, was an exceptional host! When we had some health troubles, he did everything to help us. Also the chalet is really a marvelous place for exploring the etna region and enjoying the green tranquility of nature. We can recommend this place in any respect!

We travelled with our kids of 3 and 6 to the Etna. The hut is a wonderful place to enjoy the woods, stay in peace a enjoy the immense experience of the Etna. We also did a trip to (closeby) Taormina which was breathtaking. The hut is comfortable and cosy, very basic but the great fireplace made it amazing. Orazio was very kind and responded to everything we needed quickly.
