Relax in the peace and quiet of our rural, custom-built guesthouse with fully equipped kitchen, extra large bedroom, living room, full bathroom and washer/dryer. Enjoy a wood burning fire, full access to one acre property and creek, mountain views from the private deck with BBQ. We’re 5 min to Rock Creek or Convict Lake/15 min to Mammoth Mountain and 45 min to Yosemite East Entrance. We're happy to share local knowledge about hiking trails, fishing, hot springs or local breweries and eateries.
Our rural guesthouse was built by Joey and is extremely nice with custom cherry wood cabinets, hand scraped hardwood oak floors, beautiful tile work, ceiling fans, double-paned windows and loving touches throughout. Pictures cannot quite capture it's size or charm (but our reviews do). There is a full kitchen, woodburning stove, living room, extra large bedroom, full bathroom, stacked washer and dryer and private outdoor deck with BBQ. The kitchen has a full-size stove/oven, microwave, and refrigerator and includes cookware, plate ware, utensils, toaster, coffee maker, crock pot, blender, etc. The bathroom has an extra deep tub and shower and lovely counter space.
The bedroom is extra large so there's actually two different sides of the room: one side has a king bed, two nightstands, table for your luggage and dresser. The other side of the room has the full bed, one nightstand, bookshelf and rocker. We have a bamboo screen available should you want more privacy in the bedroom. There is also a futon bed in the living room and extra blankets and bedding.
We've taken care to add amenities to make your stay more enjoyable such as basic spices, butter, olive oil, coffee, sugar and organic loose leaf tea from Oshala Farms (run by Jamie's cousin's Elise Higley in southern Oregon) to drink from pottery that Jamie has thrown (available for sale).
We offer FREE high-speed wireless internet and plenty of wood for an enchanting fire. Please note AT&T does not work well in the Mammoth area, but you can download an app called Talkatone that provides calling and text messaging through wifi. If you are coming from Yosemite, you may not have reception, so please save the directions before you get into the mountains "no cell zone." We have a landline for emergencies.
This guesthouse is very near the John Muir Wilderness in the small town of Crowley Lake, where our only restaurant, Toms Place, closes at 8pm. Deer and bear come down so please clean out any food from your car when you arrive and bring inside the house. Bears love city food).
There will be no daily maid service so please use the washer/dryer for your laundry. The first 100 guests will receive a gift of handmade soaps of sweet orange, vetiver and ylang ylang made by Stacey Lazarra, owner of Jade Daisy Perfumes. Stacey is a natural perfumer with a scent organ of more than 300 pure essential oils that she carefully hand selected from around the world.
We are strict about our no smoking and no pet policy. Thanks for understanding
This dream vacation home is on an acre property with beautiful Quaking Aspen grove that you can enjoy as well as the year-round running creek and deck. There are stairs to reach the guest house's private entrance. There is plenty of parking, including enough space for your trailer or motorhome (please let us know ahead of time and the same pricing will apply). If you are coming during the winter season PLEASE have 4 wheel drive or carry chains and know how to put them on your vehicle. The guesthouse is located on a street with a steep hill and we want you to arrive and come and go safely.
Interaction with guests
We love meeting new people and sharing stories. And we understand that socializing with hosts isn't what everyone wants, so we're totally flexible.
We'll do our best to customize your visit whenever we can. Look forward to meeting you.
Other things to note
We've named our place Sweet Water Hideaway because we are on a well and the water coming out of the tap is so sweet and delicious. We won't have bottled water available, because this is WHERE they source the water to bottle it. : ) But there will be a pitcher of cool well water in the fridge when you arrive.
Also we're really strict on our no smoke and no pet policy. Please secure a nice safe place for your furry family members. Thanks for understanding.
Please do not smoke in the house or on the property. Also, please do not light candles. We have set out battery operated candles. We have a very sensitive fire alarm system that will go off in both houses if there is smoke. No outside noise after 9pm, unless we're with you and can monitor best neighborhood vibe. Do not leave chairs in the creek. They could float downriver, get frozen in by a sudden winter storm, break from rushing water or snow, plus they are cold and wet for the next person who wants to sit on the deck, which could Jamie, Joey, or the next guest. Be mindful of cactus and splinters. Please leave your skis outside on the patio and do not walk into the house with your ski boots on
From Oct 20, 2017 - May 01, 2018 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
Joey & Jamie run Sweet Water Hideaway. We love adventures and being out in nature. Hosting comes second nature and meeting new like-minded people is always a welcomed treat. We're both creative - Joey built the entire home where you will be staying and Jamie indulges in writing, making pottery, and designing jewelry. We love to create new culinary dishes too and hope to be making our own beer, which we'd gladly share with you!
