perfect place for a traveller who wants to spend their days amidst the bustle of Kolkata -- then have a place to crash in the evening. Very conveniently located. Many locations are walkable and transit options are plenty. The view of Kolkata from the room is spectacular. and the host is very sensitive and generous. :-)

When I booked originally, I read the reviews at the bottom which indicate (quite rightly!) Pravesh is a super guy-- smart, welcoming, and clearly with a very bright future ahead of him-- and fascinating to talk to. Also that the room is quaint, with a super view across Calcutta, clean, and comfortable. Now I see some more recent reviews, about the building and the streets around. It's true the building and the streets around are rather dark by (say) 10pm, but before then they are a hive of activity, and after that time they simply provide the sleeping place for some of the local stallholders. I found it a hugely atmospheric place to stay-- and never felt anything but enthralled. The building is totally fascinating: its labyrinthine corridors housing all manner of random activities, including even a financial services call centre. As noted, the attic room is above an office itself, but I found this unique rather than any bother. In summer it should be noted the room is quite hot, but it does have a highly effective fan. This is a unique and special place: if you are the kind of person who travels to learn and to really experience local life, then you will thrive and be energised by this excellent Airbnb gem.

Pravesh is really helpful and responsive, but I felt I needed to leave this location, as a woman traveling alone it did not feel entirely safe.... The street outside is crowded with men and returning in the evening (and walking the 6 flights up) was incredibly uncomfortable. Just thought other women should be aware of this before booking! :/

Pravesh was a great host helping us book buses and trains, helping us buy a sim card and good advice as to where to go in the city. The room was nice and clean but annoying that the bathroom was downstairs and could only be used at certain times. The flat was above an office, in an big office block, which was extremely hot! It is a good location but the block was very unpleasant to walk through, especially after dark. Nice touches to the room including toiletries, slippers and a wide selection of books.

Response from Pravesh:
Alex & Holli were quite pleasant guests to have. However, I would suggest you read the house rules prior to booking any place so that you are not greeted with unexpected surprises. The issues you pointed out are CLEARLY mentioned on the very first line of the description of the loft. The building is over 100 years old and thus has that rustic touch to it and at times could get a little ghostly as the government does not allow it to be remodelled as it is one of the protected buildings in Kolkata. I wish you all the very best for the balance of your India trip. Ciao!

It is a very nice experience to live in here, and Pravesh is a very nice host who gave me so many useful suggestion about the journey in Kolkata. And the position is excellent, it is in the center of the city, and you can really enjoy the sightseeing in this area. It is a very worthy place to live for a backpacker! Strong recommendation.

Response from Pravesh:
Hosting Jerry was like a feeling of meeting a long lost brother. He is so full of information to share from all spheres of life. It was fun feeding him with all sorts of Indian delicacies the day he arrived when it had gotten too late & all shops were closed. I could access that he loved them; though it might have been a bit too spicy for him. Hope to see you soon brother - maybe in Canada, China, India or some other part of the world. Till then, Ciao.

Fantastic stay. Pravesh really goes out of his way for his guests. His warm personality and flexibility made my life so much easier! Many thanks !

Response from Pravesh:
Rushil is a talented guy. He was in the city for just half a day to have one of the most gifted singers in the Indian music scene recorded, for his upcoming album, which also has the voice of the great - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan himself. Would have loved to interact with him more but given his tight schedule, we keep the interaction planned for his next trip. I would highly recommend hosting Rushil & look forward to hosting him again. Caio!

Hi, fellow traveller!

I run my own business which means not a lot of time away from Kolkata. However, I like to travel when I get time off. So far I've ventured to Italy (Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice), France (Paris), Switzerland (Interlaken, Lucerne, Bern, Basel), Singapore, China (Xian, Shanghai, Shenzen, Beijing), Hong Kong, Vatican City, Germany, Oman and lived in Dubai, UAE for over two years. Domestically in India, I have travelled to over 20 of the 29 states.

I love to see the world and the people in it!

What intrigues me most is the paradox in the vast diversity yet core similarity that we share as humankind-anywhere in the world.

I like ... people ... meeting them ... understanding them ... getting to know them. I believe the real value in life is found in relationships - even those that only lasts one conversation long. I love life ... and believe in living it to the fullest.

Most people describe me as 'pleasant' and having 'a permanent smile'. I can't help it - seriously. I love putting smiles on people's faces too and if that means going the extra mile ..its worth it!

You could pop up any questions you have, and I'll try my best to resolve as many as I can. Do let me know if you need any specific assistance before you arrive here such as a local sim card, list of great food joints nearby, best touristic spots, or anything crazy that pops up! Crazy is the new classy any which ways ... so go ahead and keep checking off your kickass bucket list!

Ciao !
