Flat 1 Brynrhosyn is a bright, quirky & spacious maisonette flat in the lower two floors of a mid-Victorian terrace. Open plan living space, with a private yard it is close to the seafront and all town centre amenities.

The property has recently been renovated and is fully furnished and equipped.

The space
Croeso i Brynrhosyn!

This flat was a well-loved home for myself and my husband whilst I was a postgrad a few years ago. We fell in love with Aberystwyth and Ceredigion, so despite moving away we have kept the flat as a little Welsh hideaway to share with others.

The front door serves both Flat 1 (that's you) and Flat 2 (upstairs, where Rob and his Daughter live). Once inside the building a separate door to your left (with the cat door-knocker) leads into the flat.

On the ground floor you have -
Bedroom 1: King-size bed and a king-size sofa bed (don't worry, it's a very comfy one).
Bedroom 2: 1 King size bed
We can provide a travel cot and booster seat/high chair on request.

At the end of the hall is the first bathroom, its rather quirky and I like to think of it as a ships cabin!

On the lower ground floor you have -
A big open plan space! The house is set into a hill which means the basement isn't really anything like a basement at all. There is a light well at the street end and a french door leading into the enclosed yard. The yard itself is quite a sun-trap and is planted up with flowers and herbs (plenty of rosemary for your Welsh lamb and fresh mint for the sauce or mojitos if you prefer!). There is a table, chairs and parasol in the shed for you to use.
The kitchen is new, and has a hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, underfloor heating and kickspace lighting. There is a selection of tea and coffee for you to help yourself to. The sitting area has a gas fire, blankets and board-games for you to cosy up with. There is a freeview T.V with an amazon fire-stick for you to use (but not for purchasing or renting any films, shows, or games). The shelving has a large selection of maps and books (mostly about the local area, history, nature etc).
There is a utility area near the kitchen that has a washer and dryer should you need to use it.
Bathroom 2 is just off the sitting area, complete with shower which we couldn't fit upstairs!

A note on dogs -
We love dogs, our Springer Spaniel Ethel is my best buddy and is nearly always with me and often has holidays here. However we make a conscious effort to keep her off he soft furnishings. We understand some dogs might still want to snuggle so we ask that you bring covers for the sofa/bed if thats the case. Please bring their own beds, bowls etc. and clear up after them in the yard.

We have fantastic walking on our doorstep, I would highly recommend taking the train to Borth and walking back to Aber along the coast path. Tan y Bwlch beach is easy to walk to if you take the coast path south. This beach allows dogs all year round (the town centre ones are only dog friendly during the winter months). Ynyslas (north of Borth) has a huge and beautiful beach which is also a good place for a dog walk. Bwlch Nant Yr Arian on the A44 has good walking trails and daily Red-Kite feeding, and if you are hungry (or in need of beer!) be sure to stop at the Druid Inn at Goginan on the way back. Pub-wise the Ship and Castle (good for beer and rugby), Yr Hen Llew Ddu (great for sports and burgers) and the Glengower on the North Parade (fantastic for everything) are favourites of ours as they are dog friendly and have local ales and ciders. If you're keen on live music, Rummers (30 second walk away) is a good shout, and also has a restaurant upstairs.

Aberystwyth has great pubs and a surprisingly lively nightlife scene thanks to the University. We would like to encourage you to explore the local establishments rather than having an excessively loud party in the flat, out of respect for Rob (your neighbour upstairs). Trust us, you'll have a great time out in town!

One thing not to be missed in Aberystwyth is an evening walk up Constitution hill to watch the sun-set over the sea.

Other things to note
*Please be patient with my response times at the moment. I always try my hardest to reply as soon as I possibly can.*

My husband, James is undergoing very intensive hospital treatment for Leukaemia at the moment, so alongside a full time job, managing Brynrhosyn and caring for James I can be a little pushed for time!

I thank you for your patience and understanding

Location

Aberystwyth, Wales, United Kingdom

Aberystwyth is the most cosmopolitan little welsh seaside-town you can imagine. Welsh language and culture is truly alive here and mix wonderfully with the young, multicultural energy that the University brings in.

The town has two award-winning beaches (there are 3 beaches within walking distance), a castle, museum, independent shops, a range of restaurants, and great pubs. The wider area boasts multiple beaches, mountains and family attractions (Borth Zoo Animalarium is great). Snowdonia is an easy drive if you fancy a swift stroll up Cadair Idris or a taste of history visiting a slate mine.
Powell Street is situated in the town centre conservation area. Properties here are a mixture of student houses and private homes. It is a safe area, generally quiet with some late night student activity!

I am a well seasoned traveller, at first going solo, but now mostly with my husband James. We've camped across the states, Canada, Africa and the British isles, and I once spent a month on a train going to China. My favourite style of holiday may be camping, but a close second is staying somewhere with a homely feel, I do live in a 300 year old country cottage after all. As for the suggestions of how to describe myself, my five things I can't live without are my darling husband obviously... and yes he wrote that bit, my assorted cats, the horses- i'm a competitive showjumper and train young horses, the local pub, and travelling! And as a guest, I like to take as good a care of where I stay as I would my own house.

During your stay
If you plan on checking in close to 3pm then I will meet you to hand over the keys. However most of the time I will get the flat ready for you and leave the keys in the lockbox as I live quite some distance away.

I do not live in Aberystwyth full-time but I am always available via phone, messenger and email should you need help or advise.

If there is an emergency that needs immediate attention (i.e. water leak, gas leak, lost keys etc), please notify myself and Rob, who lives upstairs. He knows the flat and is a very practical fellow (ex-fireman!).
