This is a wonderful little cottage with a helluva lot of charm! The love and care that have gone into creating a clean, comfortable and quality home was palpable. I felt very safe and at peace here. Quite the opposite and truly an advancement on the expectations of a business traveler. Thanx to the hosts for all the thoughtful high quality I clusions.

Barkly Cottage was beautifully presented, clean and cosy - I could picture myself living there - and offered everything you could need while staying (cooking & washing supplies, spare toiletries if needed, extra blankets, etc). The neighbour’s chickens (that roam through Barkly Cottage too) were a hit with our 2 kids who woke up first thing in the morning to go feed them. Angie & Jesse also had a selection of toys, puzzles, board games, DVDs, game consoles and a record player in the home, which not only kept the kids entertained, but us too. I love that Angie had set up one of the bedrooms for our kids, put all the toys out, decorated the house with fresh flowers, and supplied a fruit bowl and fresh breads & milk... it was very thoughtful (especially as we arrived in the evening) and offered a great personal touch. Barkly Cottage is also perfectly located within walking distance (or a brief drive) to the main strip, local eateries and supermarkets, as well as the park, J Ward and Aradale Asylum. Or for day trips, is within an hour of the Grampians, Ballarat, etc. Angie & Jesse were perfect hosts. I highly recommend Barkly Cottage and I would happily stay here again if ever back in Ararat.

Our family was staying one night in Angie's beautiful house. Everything was just perfect for our little holiday. House was very clean and we felt ourselves very welcome. Kids loved feeding chickens on backyard and playing with toys and games that house had to offer. Parents enjoyed cozy and warm atmosphere. Angie was very good host, telling some tips where to go in surroundings. All in all it was very easy and nice to be in contact with her. We can recommend this house to everyone :)

My partner and I had the best time in this cottage, we didn't want to leave! We really felt at home and it was so cosy. A great selection of records and Nintendo for the 'kids' (us) was a great blast from the past! The cottage was even better than the photos and we can't wait to come back, Thanks so much to Angie and Jesse for being amazing hosts!

Hi, I'm Angie. I am a mum, an animal lover and a collector of pretty things. I relocated from Melbourne to Ararat 3 years ago. It was the proximity to the beautiful picturesque Grampians, country living and the nearby wineries that brought us here. We love being close to so many lovely country towns like Avoca, Talbot, Smythesdale and Skipton, which have gorgeous antique / collectible stores and craft / farmers markets once a month. Ararat also has its own Farmer's Market held on the 2nd Sunday of each month in Alexandra Hall.

In addition to looking after 2 kids under 3, I also run The Sweet Pea Flower Farm here in Ararat which specialises in seasonal blooms which we sell at the Ararat Farmers Market and wholesale. My partner, Jesse, has a keen interest in collecting vinyl records and runs a stall within the Stawell Picker's Market.

Our quaint Miner's Cottage is now available for you to stay in. We hope you find it comfortable. We are still in the process of completing a visual story of Barkly Cottage's history which was built in 1902 by Mr John Joseph Berkery. Mr Berkery owned acres of market gardens surrounding the house, supplying fruit and veg to the town. The house has seen a few changes since then and the garden still needs some attention though we have plans to follow in his footsteps and establish plots of vegies, fruit trees and berries for our guests to enjoy.

I am always happy to answer your queries about Ararat and its surrounding towns, wineries, events and of course dates for farmers markets!
